I have asked the developers not to commit any patch that would add or modify a gettext string until the next version of Wesnoth is released. Consequently, unless a major bug is found and the release process is cancelled, you can be sure than the current string catalog is the one the next release...

Just found out something fun. The string Replace with requires me to know what is the word following it, in order to translate the WITH appropriately. Because i cannot i have to gamble in which way i will have less gramatic mistakes. Darn.

Hi, I'm a newcomer to Wesnoth (I haven't played but a small way through HttT and I suck at it), but I'm also Finnish, and am a language-nerd studying linguistics, and a fantasy-literature / folklore geek, a pretty good substitute for a real translator!
It is possible to translate hero names? Particularly those displayed under their pictures when they speak. Well, that was more or less a rethorical question, as I doubt the answer is yes.
But can one hope for translatable hero names in the future?
In this thread we ended up writing a poem describing the Initiate->Ancient Lich chain. It was first noted by Cedric that this might pose a problem for translators.

I've just found out what causes the ugly spaces in some translated messages -- commas. The attached screenshot is from tutorial (turquoise emphasis added), now I remember I've seen some ugly spaces like this (and even worse) in other translated capmaigns too, but thought it was some random bug......
I found in helpbook little :) bug. In Game's Tutorial on Russian translation names of Abilities and Traits not dispayed. You can see this in attached screenshot.
This is only on russian translation.

When I run BfW in languages other than English, I see UTF-8 strings being encoded as 8-bit, which of course is far from ideal. I'm using Windows XP, but do ported U**ix games somehow bypass the Windoze API? The same problem happens in Freeciv....

I want to suggest an #untranslated -string, analog to #fuzzy . This would make the updating of a big *.po file like the one for TRoW (with >5500 lines) more comfortable.

It's just me or unit name (I mean Bowman, Merman, Wolf Rider, etc., not unit personal names) translations don't work?
They are marked with _ in .cfg files, but it seems to have no effect in my builds. Right pane, help, recruit/recall lists, ..., everything shows them in English.
