Troubleshooting in Russian translation

Post by Azik »

Кто-нибудь знает как можно корретно перевести на русский название юнита Demilch? Вроде бы это и лич, но бестелесный. Мне аналогов из русского на ум ничего не приходит. Я вообще из личей знаю только Кощея Бессмертного :) , а уж тех, кто тело потерял...

И еще некоторые названия юнитов ставят меня в тупик:
Elvish Sylph
Elvish Shyde
Wose
Кто может, помогите

Здесь на форуме по-русски редко кто что-то обсуждает, лучше нам с тобой наверное запустить где-нить свой маленький форум и обсуждать вопросы русификации.
А то все только говорят, но никто ничего не делает, это я по поводу русификации, только вот мы с тобой :)

Надо бы, конечно...
Но по крайней мере здесь есть площадка, и много гостей, кто-нибудь, авось и ответит.

My suggestion: If you cannot translate exactly, approximate.

In Slovak translation, I have translated "Shyde" as "fairy" (it looks like a fairy, doesn't it?), and "Wose" as "forest-man". No one has complained, yet. :D Also "Demilich" = "Elder Кощей".

Other suggestion: If you cannot translate, even approximately, just replace latin leters with cyrilic ("Sylph" = "Силф"), unless the word already has some other meaning in Russian.

You have nothing to lose. If someone will complain, just ask them "And what, in your opinion, is the correct translation?" and leave the problem to them. The full translation with 5 incorrect terms is much better than no translation at all.

Thank for recomedation, Wiliam.

Maybe, "Wose" = "Ent" from Tolkien's Lord of the Ring?
Just this name of unit is not known in Russian

(norwegian translator)

Tolkien company can sue us if we say "Ent" for giant walking trees. Why not rewrite "Wose" as you like it? In Norwegian I've written "Vose" (two syllables, voh-seh). It isn't known in Norwegian either, really.

OK, OK!
If I cannot say 'Ent' in russian, then it must be Wose in russian transcription.
Offtop:
I didn't see copyright for the Ent's name in the book >:).
