Startup problem Wesnoth 1.10.1 AppData

Post by Narchya »

Hi there

This is not so much a bug as it is a request to find out what I f***ed up. I was searching for the saved games for my wesnoth campaign and after a long search I found out it was stored in some hidden AppData folder in my user folder. I wanted to make hidden files visible but I ended up making the whole folder visible, and probably also [censored] something up with the readability/writability of the folders. So now I ended up making the whole folder visible and editable as otherwise even firefox wouldn't start anymore. But now the problem is, Wesnoth doesn't start anymore. It is stuck on the last 5% of loading. "reading files and creating cache"

And those bright lights at microsoft actually [censored] up the system recovery system that was standard in Vista, making my love for Microsoft products even less than non-existant. Linux here all the way!

You could go to the Wesnoth user configuration directory itself and make sure it is not set to read-only. Also, you can safely delete the cache directory in it; perhaps starting again with a clean one will bring things back to normal.

when you're asked where to put your userdata in the installer don't chose the install location unless your account has administrator privileges (http://wiki.wesnoth.org/EditingWesnoth#Windows_2).

just reinstall the game, chose the default option and move your existing files (from the "virtual store") over (after launching the game once).
