unable to download large add-ons
I have found out where to download add-ons from with a web browser, but when I try to install them, they don't show up any where in the game, and the 'COPYING.TXT' file is always corrupted. If I try to download add-ons larger than 1 MB from the BfW application, it gives me an error saying ' remote host disconnected'.
I really do not know what is going on, or what to do about this problem. Could somebody please help me.

do you have write permission to the userdata directory?

Yes, I do have write permission to the directory. It's in my home folder.
I can download add-ons smaller than 1 MB from withen the game without any trouble.
I'm starting to think that the problem is with the server, because I tried again yesterday, and BfW detected it (it showed up in the application). But I did have to go to the web page and manually install it. I have downloaded all the rest of the add-ons (save for one) that I wanted, and the campaigns show up in the list, but I can't start OR join a multiplayer game.
I will try fidling with things, and see if I can get it working. But I really have NO idea as to what is going on.

I have figured out what the problem was. The game was just loading the add-ons, but not responding, so it looked like a locked up application. I figured this out by waiting a while, and looking at BfW with 'Activity Monitor'.
I'm suprised that it didn't show a progress bar. Who should I contact to sugguest this for Battle for Wesnoth?

Maybe you shouldn't trust the percentage too much and simply wait for a longer time? Could very well be that it'll finish later on, getting such a percentage wrong is much easier then getting it right...

It's a windows-only problem apparently, but waiting long enough should still finish the download. It may even take considerably longer than the actual download time was (according to the % gauge), but it should finish eventually.Dakaa wrote:Same problem! I can't download 1mb+ add-ons, it will stuck at 99%.
Comparing the number of bytes/KB's/whatever downloaded to the total amount (which is known)?Torangan wrote:getting such a percentage wrong is much easier then getting it right...

I've been having the same problem (and yes, I unistalled the earlier version of wesnoth, and then deleted the file it was in for good measure afterwards).
I haven't been able to install any addons -I haven't tried any under 1mb yet- and cannot join games.
However, min edoesn't freeze. well, it idid once when installing a campaign, but that was before I uninstalled the game. Uusally it does a little bit, and then says: remote host disconnected.
For MP, it always gives the 'no sides could be found' error.
Today however, I tired to download a campaign again, got the disconnect, and now it doesn't even display the loading bar for the server- it just goes a bit, and says it could not connect.
I have admin privleges on my computer, so I doubt there's a problem related to permissions, and there isn't a firewall to block t so... yeah.

Oh no look out its a ray gun.
You should move to avoid the rays
the rays are coming out of the gun
if you are hit by the rays
you will be shot by the rays
the rays are fast so you should be fast to
can you win against the fast rays from the gun?

2 things:
- the server has been known to be acting weird at times. When it says it cannot connect or the remote host disconnected, try later.
- when downloading large add-ons, the problem seems to be that it takes AGES for Wesnoth to unpack them. That's the only problem, really: unpacking. It downloads fast (hence the progress bar), but then, there's a massive amount of slowing down when it unpacks. I'm guessing it's a problem with the code, because my comp doesn't have trouble unpacking 5 MB zip files usually
The bottom line is: just wait, however long, and it should be fine in the end. Also, i am under the impression the waiting time was smaller in 1.2, but that might be totally subjective, or just that i didn't download as large a file as before, yet.

Hard work may pay off in the long run, but laziness always pays off right away.
Well, after I posted, I uninstalled and re-installed again.
Now I can download campaigns.
I'll try multiplayer later.
I'm starting suspect that the campaign server is indeed being a bad nubbin.
EDIT: I just tried to download the only 2mb campaign I can think of
(alos one of my favorite campaigns ever)
It gave me a firm NO! YOU LOST THE GAME (aka, remote host disconneted)
I've come to the conclusion that the campaign server is playing a game with me, minus the fun. I mean, I could understand if it actually anoyed me, or angered me, but it doesn't and the server knows this, so really what is it getting out of it?
(aka, I gues it really is a case of wait and try again.)
Oh, and it downloaded the imperial era in a span of 2 seconds so I'd say it is faster now, when it works.
I LOST THE GAME!
