my idea how to make the fights look nice
Do You remember settlers 1 ? Quite old game but i still remember how they managet to make the fights interesting with just primitive graphics (320*200 i think). When 2 soldiers were fighting each had the following moves- block ,high block, jump, hit up hit down and hit middle. They did that in semi-random order accordig to soldiers training level.
So when 1 soldier attacked with "hit down" the second could do a jump to avoid the hit. When 1 soldier attacked with "hit middle" the 2nd could use block to block this hit. They could bouth use for example "hit middle" so the better one scored a hit.
This was made with very very simple graphics but made the fights interesting so you were actually looking at them thinking "hit him, kill him"
In wesnoth for now the fights are not interesting at all u just atack and wait for the result.
I understand that it's difficult as we are speaking of many different races in wesnoth but anyway i think it's worth trying to implement

It might eventually happen if people submit the art for this.

Wesnoth acronym guide.

Currently (in 1.1.2+svn), you can define several different animations for the same attack - one will be chosen randomly for every swing. You can also have multiple defense animations. And also different animations for both depending on whether the attack hits or not. So you can do quite a bit already.

I asked this question before and it was answered with a yes, just like zookeeper said. It would be really nice to see a faction with units that have 3+ attack frames, 3+ defence frames and such.Naeddyr wrote:It would interesting if there would at least be added support for a couple of different attack animations per attack per unit, non-obligatory bits of extra animation for certain units who might have use for different-looking attacks - possibly for those units that are used them most.
Aragwaith have like that many...Dragon Master wrote:I asked this question before and it was answered with a yes, just like zookeeper said. the thief is the only mainline unit with multiple defense...
but trust me any unit can have it, it just need some drawing
you can do all sort of interesting stuff with animations already, and the current units only use a small part of it, because changing the engine is easy, but drawing art is hard
just think that mvt anims have been around since december IIRC, and only the wolf is animated

The animation engine was recently rewritten and much more different animations then before are now possible. So just go out and find people to actually draw the frames.
