I'm sorry, but I absolutely hate the opening music. It's monotonous, boring, annoying, and there seems to be some static in the background that makes my ears hurt.

I've worked on Flight to Freedom for over four years, and I now believe that it is time for me to pass it on. Over the past few months, I have not done much at all with regards to 1.5 compatibility, and I no longer have sufficient time to continually maintain FtF. However, I do not want FtF to become completely abandoned, and I am asking anyone who is interested to apply for control over it.

In order to apply, please send me a private message containing the following:
1. your reasons for seeking control over FtF
2. your experience with Wesnoth, WML and campaign writing
3. the direction in which you would like to take and develop FtF

I will review applications until January 31, and the person that I select will receive the .pbl password. Although I would still be around to provide suggestions and answer any questions he or she may have, that person would be the chief maintainer of FtF, and absolutely free to develop FtF as he or she sees fit. Thank you for your consideration.

I would like to thank the Wesnoth community for making FtF and Wesnoth possible, and I would like to thank all those who have helped FtF become what it is today through their feedback and contributions.

Sorry to hear that, MadMax. You've made something unique and taken it a long, long way.

I'd be interested in taking it over, but I doubt I have the time. Put me down as "interested," anyways.

Really? I would like you to keep doing FtF because not many Drake campaigns in add-on server as long as I know. In addition, I like your art work a lot such as image of Drake Guard and FtFsplash.png. They look great. Unfortunately, I do not have enough ability to do it, yet, but is it any way to change your mind?

I'd just like to remind everyone of the application for control over FtF:
In order to apply, please send me a private message containing the following:
1. your reasons for seeking control over FtF
2. your experience with Wesnoth, WML and campaign writing
3. the direction in which you would like to take and develop FtF

Nova, you're definitely on the "interested list".

@SkyOne: I doubt I'll change my mind on this (although I am considering postponing it), but I have been able to make some progress with a 1.5-compatible version of FtF. However, I'm having some weird terrain graphics bug with canyons, which is for now a show-stopper. Also, I did not make any of the FtF graphics whatsoever. Their artists are listed in credits.cfg.

I understand. One day, it will happen to me, too, but glad to hear your considering postponing it.
I start converting my campaign which is not published yet to 1.5.x, too, and I am new here. You are able to do it.
Thanks for mention to me.

Um, you are using your own terrain tiles? I have stumbled upon this while working on IftU and I managed to fix them to a certain extent in 1.4.x. Porting the fixes to 1.5.x seemed to be difficult at the beginning, but I could solve it at the end with some trial-and-error experiments.

What kind of response have you gotten so far? Any takers?

Textdomain must be equal to the campaign directory name for WesCamp to work. If you drop the _1_5 part it'll look nice but doesn't work anymore.

Hi. I'm a scholar and a gamer :eng: currently finishing up a PhD on comic books, video games and visual culture in general.

Yeah, I know.

I enjoyed FtF, and found it interesting enough to write about for Gameology (a blog+ for scholarship about videogames). You can see my post/article here:

http://www.gameology.org/blog/becoming_ ... ar_machine

I didn't contact anyone involved with FtF (or this forum) before doing this - I hope no-one's offended, but the expectations of scholarly professionalism are different from those of the web in general, and I wanted to set out my ideas as clearly as possible before getting feedback from those involved.

Thanks, everyone (especially MadMax),

Well I must say, that was a very compelling review of FtF, and the issues of race in fantasy gaming. A very stimulating read :-).

Thank you!

Also, on the issue of FtF's future, I'd be willing to be involved, but I can't be in charge, as I don't know how to script for Wesnoth, and don't have the time to learn. Thus, I don't know how much help I'd be, but I don't want to see FtF die.

I'll second that, Tof: a fascinating read and a real honor for Flight to Freedom -- and, by extension, all open source fiction. Maybe we're not published, or famous, but you took us seriously and found that we really had something of value to say.

It made my day, anyways.

As far as Flight to Freedom's future goes, it's hard to say what's going to happen. MadMax has pretty much dropped off the radar without naming a successor. I've offered to take control of the campaign, but I haven't heard anything from him in weeks -- and I'm now preparing to travel for a couple of months, which I'm sure is less-than-ideal.

Hopefully, your article inspires him to drop by the forums again.

Well, I would be interested, so here goes;

1) I would enjoy taking control of FtF because it apparently will die without someone to support it. I enjoy it, and would hate to see it fall.

2) I have coded The War of Terrador units and campaign, and they are now considered a "completed" UMC era, and as such, I have extra time.

3) I feel that FtF has several interesting parts in it, however, (I haven't played it in about a month, and only on 1.4) I would like too see a possible break point where the hero could ally with undead or something. (I'd come up with something, though, as I'm the king of Improv.)

Dag nabbit! I just saw the January 31 deadline. Bah!

Ah well. Nova, if you agree when you get the control (since no one else volunteered in time) I would like to help.
Ehhhh... don't mind me, I'm just the annoying little modder who gets on peoples nerves. I'll just lurk till Someone says my name. :P

Oh, and also Creator of The War Of Terrador
