Good campaigns?

I would disagree with this for some campaigns.ILikeProgramming wrote:But they aren't bad either.

I like all the campaigns. If anyone wants me to join in creating one, I'll do my best... I'm not a programmer.
Some of the older campaigns are still being updated. It takes a lot of time to make a good campaign, you can't just do it in a few days. So that's why you don't seen a ton of new excellent campaigns every week.tomsik wrote:I think campaigns wich have most dowload numbers are most old.

I'll do the programming if you come up with ALL of the content, including dialogue, names, maps, which units are used, etc. I'll program custom units if you come up with stats and a description.
Making you come up with the maps might be a tall order, but we do have a map editor.

I followed your advice yesterday and download your campaign; first impression is really good, interesting story and unusual events, so I'd second the recommendation. Congrats and thanks, quartex.quartex wrote:If you like campaigns with role-playing elements and unusual scenarios, I want to shamelessly plug my own campaign: Under the Burning Suns. If it isn't too difficult, I think you'll enjoy it.

My Pappy said, "Never say no to anything upfront." It IS a tall order... but at the same time a very generous one!scott wrote:

Send me an email at dtoprac@myway.com . Also... calling in anyone else who wants to work on the non-programming end.
Thanks, Scott.
Thanks simkin. It's always nice to see new players enjoying the campaign. It makes all the hard work worth it.simkin wrote:I followed your advice yesterday and download your campaign; first impression is really good, interesting story and unusual events, so I'd second the recommendation. I'm so jealous of Dennis right now!
You see.....
(here's an impression of me baring my soul on a talk-show)
...I've been wanting to make a campaign for some time now, but, as many of you know, my programming/WML knowledge is remarkably poor. I'd been thinking that it would be next to impossible to find someone who would want to do only the technical aspect (my impression was that that work might not be very fun)....
Seeing this though, I have new hope.
I'm going to put out the call. Would anyone be interested in making a campaign with me? I'm a writer (of sorts) in my outside-of-wesnoth-life, so this sort of project would be very fun and interesting for me- hopefully, for you as well.
Oh, and I could make the maps, too.
So, how about it? Who wants to help create the GREATEST CAMPAIGN OF ALL TIME?

I might be able to help you too. Coming up with all of the content up front is not trivial, and if one of you is further along than the other there might be enough time to finish one before the other is prepared. I don't want to promise too much though, and the complexity of the task goes up with weird WML events that people like to come up with.
I think it would take about a week to do a 10-scenario campaign with minimal weird WML events, provided the dialog/narration and maps are provided. As long as you don't want a full inventory system or something like that, I think we have enough WML floating around to accomodate you.

You really should get a business going.
I might want to start "selling" my services too... but I have too much other stuff to do, like polish my current campaigns and begin my next one...

Yeah how about you finish what's on your plate first!
I'll let you know how it goes. It will probably be tougher than I think.

Many many thanks for the offer. It's really wonderful to know that there are people willing to undertake such tasks.
The story and such will likely take me a long time, so don't worry about managing/balancing multiple designers- No doubt Dennis will be ready to go long before I am.
I have the grandest of schemes though. Just you wait.
Going to try to compose a lot of original music for it too....

Now, what's a good order to play campaigns in, difficulty-wise? I've played Heir to the Throne, and the one about the undead brothers (Dark Hordes?), and am now at the end (I believe) of Rise of Wesnoth -- all on Easy, with a good amount of save/reload. I realize I'm not good at this game, but what would be good campaigns to practice with?
