Stars and planets

Post by redbeard2 »

Im doing a new campaign that involves Saurian divination and I wonder, is there any statement about what the planets are? I assume not Jupiter, no Mars or any other planet of our own system. Has there ever been a canon description of other planets, or has it always been vague statements about celestial bodies?

Mostly the Latter. Only campaigns I know that actually mentions other planets are Invasion from the Unknown, After the Storm, and Genesis (this one has like mentions of several planets such as Irdya, Inferno, Norsula)

I was working once on Zodiac Signs for Saurians as a replacement for traits. Maybe it inspires you or maybe it should be its own forum post.
Here is my suggestion post from WMG:

The Zodiac System: The Ancestral Beasts

The Saurians believe they are guided by the spirits of eight mythological reptilian ancestors. These ancestors, embodied in the constellations, grant unique blessings to those born under their sign. Each year, the stars align differently, and all Saurians hatched in the same year share the same Zodiac.

This system is deeply tied to the Saurians’ annual breeding cycle, emphasizing unity and shared destiny among those born in the same year.

---

The Eight Ancestral Beasts

1. Chamaeleon (The Chameleon)

Effect: +10% dodge chance in all terrains (not more than 60%), -20% experience.

Lore: The Chameleon is the ancestor of cunning and adaptability. It is said to have blessed the Saurians with their sharp minds and agility.

Strategy: Best for units that need to level up quickly or evade enemy attacks.

---

2. Draco (The Dragon)

Effect: +20% resistance to fire and cold, -20% resistance to arcane, healthy, +1 health per level.

Lore: The Dragon is the protector of the Saurians, representing strength and inner fire. It shields them from elemental forces and inspires resilience.

Strategy: Ideal for units that need extra protection against elemental damage.

---

3. Serpens (The Snake)

Effect: Poison skin (poisoning enemy on melee hit), poison immunity, -5% HP.

Lore: The Snake symbolizes survival and cunning but is also seen as a harbinger of misfortune. The venomous skin prevents the Snake-born from bonding with others, leading to isolation.

Strategy: The Snake-born are perfect for aggressive melee combatants who can deal additional poison damage to their foes. However, their lower HP requires careful positioning to ensure they are not overwhelmed.

---

4. Wyvern (The Wyvern)

Effect: +1 movement point, +2 ranged damage, -1 melee damage.

Lore: The Wyvern is a majestic and fierce aerial hunter, revered as a symbol of grace and precision. It is believed to bestow its descendants with the ability to dominate from afar.

Strategy: Excellent for ranged units or mobile attackers who benefit from high terrain mobility and increased ranged damage while avoiding direct melee combat.

---

5. Tigris (The Saber-Toothed Saurian)

Effect: Each attack gains one additional strike, +30% experience.

Lore: The Saber-Toothed Saurian is a symbol of ferocity and relentless aggression. It knows no hesitation, striking repeatedly with savage determination. However, its intense focus on combat comes at the expense of learning, making it slower to gain new skills.

Strategy: Ideal for offensive units of any type, whether melee or ranged. The bonus benefits high-strike attacks and also enhances low-strike, high-damage attacks. However, the increased experience requirement makes leveling up slower, so careful planning is needed.

---

6. Luna (The Star Tortoise)

Effect: "Fearless" (no penalties during unfavorable times of day), +3 HP, +1 HP per level.

Lore: The Star Tortoise symbolizes stability and calm. It is said to guide Saurians through the darkness, offering protection and steadfastness.

Strategy: Perfect for units that need to remain strong regardless of the time of day. The bonus HP adds survivability, making it ideal for units in prolonged engagements.

---

7. Terranus (The Rock Salamander)

Effect: +4 HP, +2 HP per level, +10% physical resistance, -1 movement point.

Lore: The Rock Salamander, born from the depths of the earth, is the unyielding guardian of the Saurians.

Strategy: Best for tanks and defensive units that need to endure heavy attacks. However, the reduced movement makes them less effective at pursuing or retreating from combat.

---

8. Crocodilus (The Crocodile)

Effect: +1 melee damage, +4 maximum HP, +1 health per level.

Lore: The Crocodile represents strength and survival in water and marshes. Revered as a merciless hunter, it grants its descendants endurance and raw power.

Strategy: Great for frontline units that need a balance of durability and melee strength.

That is intriguing, my programming abilities are sub-par to be honest but I might like to try to include this in some way, maybe choose one as a once-per scenario bonus, I might be able to something like that

If you are interested, I'll create a modification soon, that assigns a saurian a random trait from those 8 signs I listed.

I made some changes to the names of the star signs in my final version.
You can check them out in my newest update to Refumees Saurian Pack on the 1.18 addon server.
