Yeah this gender thing will change the game rules if people want to make genders that actually function differently.

The solution to this would be to make a flag which forces the use of genders for a unit.

This will be on an as-needs basis though. We're not going to implement such a thing just so people can be silly with genders....

huh? is the idea now to make it so gender functions like a trait, changing unit stats based on if male or female?

The implementation of gender has always allowed any differences to be specified between units of different gender. Just that thusfar, we have only used it to make units have different images. It is likely that it will stay this way...

I think engine-coding that the only differences between genders can be images would be a good idea... that way people will not get the impression that they can make units where different genders different stats.

I agree that gender should be a purely cosmetic thing. Functional unit differences can easily be made without resorting to gender as an excuse for those differences and thus fuelling more unproductive debate... :wink:
