Pickslide wrote:(btw, the Shadow is transparant, not light, except for the eyes. I plan on having the Nightguant mostly transparant except for the mask.)

Any good?
To illustrate it better, I would suggest showing some screenshots of it from in Wesnoth.

I think it's good, as are many of the proposals. However, if it is important to have a flat look, then yours may be best (I'll go try it and see, I guess).

EDIT: Here. Note that the one in the night-time is affected by nightstalk invisibility. (also uploading a .tif because .png's are darkened by Safari)
Play a Silver Mage in the Wesvoid campaign.

the thing is, most of the artists agree that the flat look is very ugly. unless it's an integral part of the unit design (which is doubtful...), it shouldn't be done...

Personally, I prefer it for the shadow. The jetryl's alternative proposals are too similar to the wraith line, and although good, don't scream out 'SHADOW' to me. The variation based on neorig's pics are also good, but I think they worked better when it was a flame spirit...

I think flat is pretty important to this unit. Things could be done with the tranparancy and such, but a shadow is flat...and I think its key to keeping it recognizable. I wouldn't argue so hard for the look if it wasn't named shadow and all...

shadow in this context means basically "shade", IIRC. it doesn't mean "that thing on the ground where there isn't any light"

Since ghosts are in the title of this thread, I tried to make a ghost that could level up to shadow or wraith too...c&c please.

(2 body colors too...)

I used the concept from someones shadow suggestion with the upper part of the cloak and stuff.

I could try things with the shadow and nightguant to make it less boring flat, but I really don't like the idea of a cloak. I like the idea of them being very distinguishable from the wraiths. Also, I just plain like the original concepts a lot, even if they were a little funny looking.

Ghost - white is much better. It is similar to the current ghost in color and feel but the body and shading are a million times better. What does it look like without the spooge on his head?

I prefer the black; sorry, but i can't see a white unit (ghost) leveling up into a black unit. (wraith or shadow)

What? IP didn't make one, that's just a screenshot of Pickslide's in-game... which is also the best so far.

This topic should be splitted in two: new shadow discussion and new nightgaunt discussion.

There are lots of ideas here, but mixed at all.

I think that Pickslide's ghost is another excellent one. Perhaps we need more ghost units so they can all be included, somehow.

Neorice's original would be called a Hulking Shadebeast and have twice as much HP as most units.

Don't worry, people (like me :) ) will use the unused pictures for custom units in their campaigns.
