screenshots of that have been shown. It still looks too hulking.Bander wrote:It would be really cool if we could see Neo's Shadow at 50% Transparency in game. *wink* *wink*
Done - Jetryl's is best in terms of concept, Neo's is good but not for a shadow, pickslide's is just an edit of a bad base, so, while better than current, it should probably not go in-game.Bander wrote:Put all of the possible shadows next to each other on the same screen with other units, if you really want to see which one looks best.
At this point, i would say both Jetryl's and Neoriceisgood's would actually be a downgrade from what is in-game right now. they just aren't shadows.
use gimp.Bander wrote:I would do this myself, but I don't know how to alpha shade stuff, or replace graphics.

Jetryl's works, IMO.Neoriceisgood wrote:We need something like
That one's from lufia 2, I think the problem with shadows is; that making them pure black is the only way to make them "work"
It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.
I don't really know what you mean.turin wrote:It still looks too hulking.
I think neo's is a fine shadow, because it looks like you could have a bunch of elves talking around a camp fire and one goes
"heh.. Shadows... we dont have to worry about those guys around here, after all, they are just the absence of light har har" As a giant nightgaunt silently rises up behind him and cleanly seperates his head from his body.
I think it looks stealthy huge and deadly.
If you mean a kind of hunched over pose, I think that this makes it look more like it's ready to spring into action, it adds ome movement to a static frame.
I really think the flattish look is key to the shadow being a shadow and unique. Also, it reminds me a lot of Warcraft 3's shade...
Here, I even drew 2 attack frames, and put it to 95% transparancy.
The attack might be too weird for wesnoth, but I thought it was funny and it was fun.
These are really mostly me taking a little time to relax between homeworks, but I do think they are an improvement of the original sprite without losing any of the original character, which I think the other from scratch redo's lose.

IMHO the solidity of the current shadow is the worst part. The pose is not really that bad, just not great. the blue-cardboard-cutout feel of it sucks, though.
Here is my attempt at a shadow... not great, but IMHO the basic idea is better than the current ones.
(i'm not even going to argue with the people pushing for neoricegood's shadow... because obviously its pointless...)

I didn't say mine was great; i said the IDEA behind it was better than yours, IMHONeoriceisgood wrote:Turin: who'se talking about coporeal ? that thing looks more like a blob.
I think the "shadow" is such an annoying unit that how bad or good any gfx might be, it's just not "fit" in turins eyes =)
If you hadn't noticed, i think Jetryl's is fit.

Well, explain your Idea, because the only things that we can understand by the Images is some sort of muddish thing (Indeed, it reminds me some sort o Pokèmon, Muk or something like that if I'm right).turin wrote:I didn't say mine was great; i said the IDEA behind it was better than yours, IMHO
If you hadn't noticed, i think Jetryl's is fit.The only reason i'm not saying it should be in-game is most people don't support it... so i think he should improve it a bit, THEN i'll support it.
So, what's your basic idea?
Something that comes from terrain?
Something that is "squishy"?
Explain, because It's impossible to understand your idea by an image that have nothing to do with the units we are talking about.
I'm saying i think my idea of the shadow (not some bgi hulking monster, more like a Magic the Gathering Shade) works better for the shadow.Plasticgod wrote:Well, explain your Idea, because the only things that we can understand by the Images is some sort of muddish thing (Indeed, it reminds me some sort o Pokèmon, Muk or something like that if I'm right).turin wrote:I didn't say mine was great; i said the IDEA behind it was better than yours, IMHO

I'm not that great an artist, thats why you can't tell it exactly. But really i think its easier to tell whats going on than that.
