A bug in libsdl 1.2.14. Either downgrade to 1.2.13 or get a fixed build of the 1.2.14 libsdl, though I think that ubuntu does not include that yet. Cf https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/528957.

A workaround is to play fullscreen.
