Laurels showing the campaign difficulty
Currently we have laurels showing which campaigns have been completed. However they do not show on which difficulty they have been finished, which is a huge difference. This could be done either by using different colours (slight problem emerges from the fact the the number of difficulties can vary, this can be worked around by showing the top difficulty in one colour (e.g. gold) and then counting them from that position down (i.e. second being silver, then bronze then iron etc). Alternatively we could have a tiny caption stating the difficulty level just under the laurel.
Re: Laurels showing the campaign difficulty
Not all campaigns have 3 difficulties...
Re: Laurels showing the campaign difficulty
Good idea, but I'd rather show the laurel in the difficulty selection menu instead. For starters, maybe it could just be overlayed on the difficulty icon.
Re: Laurels showing the campaign difficulty
That's a very good idea, it would make things clearer, and by the way allow campaign creators to use custom ones.zookeeper wrote:Good idea, but I'd rather show the laurel in the difficulty selection menu instead. For starters, maybe it could just be overlayed on the difficulty icon.

Or we could have a /\ if you win easy, two on normal, three on difficult and so forth...

Or, a more elegant one on the icon the harder you beat it.

Re: Laurels showing the campaign difficulty
I'd like to see a WML key (or tag) controlling laurels. Currently, if we playtest an unfinished UMC campaign, we get laurels, which kind of cheapens their meaning. (I'm considering letting my campaign end in a crash instead, once I'm ready to post it to the server.)
A simple key like "laurels=no" (default would be yes) inside the [campaign] tag would be a worthy addition.
Or, maybe you want to make a [laurels] tag that could be configured for different difficulty levels.

Re: Laurels showing the campaign difficulty
I was just thinking about this the other day after winning a scenario on difficult and thought that changing the color to mean different things would be nice. However since all the campaigns are different and have different numbers of levels of difficulty, it would probably be better to indicate exactly which difficulty resulted in that win on the difficulty menu instead.
That still presents the problem of 'how do you know which campaign difficulties you have beaten without opening the difficulty dialog for each laurel you have on the list.
Using different colors would likely result in campaign creators not always following a standardization of color schemes, which could lead back to user confusion about what a certain 'trophy' or color actually means.
While i think this would be a nice touch to have added because 'trophies' can sometimes entice people to play a game more than once, i think it would probably require a larger change in the way the campaign menu displays the campaigns in order to better convey which victories had been achieved. But i would certainly agree and approve of adding some sort of victory icon to the difficulty menus to provide more feedback to the player.

I would like to see different colored wreathes as well. You would only need three. The middle difficulty levels of a campaign could share one color. There was a green one for a while, so only one more graphic is needed. (I'm not up to drawing it though.)
