Re: artisticdude's art, currently meandering about aimlessly

Post by artisticdude »

I tried out some more contrast in the mail, and gave the shading a few tweaks where it was bugging me (as well as stretching the canvas out to the standard size and adding the shadow).

That's the way that I make mail, and I wanted to try it out on your mail-man :lol2: .
I'm finally admitting that this will be a very long (if not permanent) Wesbreak. Thank y'all for the great times, and may Wesnoth rise to become one of the most popular games on the planet.

Thanks, but there's something about that style of mail that just doesn't do it for me... I can't figure out what.

Here's an update on the shadow and a few other minor things, as well as a doodle I came up with ( :augh: oh no, is this looking squid-like or what? :P ).

Yes! :D

I tweaked him some more:

EDIT: and a not-so-wesnoth-styled sprite.

Sorry for the double post, but I thought this was worthy of its own post. I've been making myself a personal logo for my artwork, and this is what I've come up with:

Cool. Now you make it 50% opague and put it in the background layer of all your sprites? :P

Loving the lighting on the newguy. Hating the lighting on his sword. And the colors actually.
Sword lighting aint easy. But there is one thing that is essential to get the lighting right. Put a layer behind it filled with a single color or even a terrain if you feel like it. That way you can see your lighting heaps better, cus frankly for swords, outlines the whole way around just don't work. There needs to be some white section in the middle part. And darker towards ether end. Make the groove in the middle graduate from the crossguard Until it's really light at the top. DON'T add new colors for it though, use the ones you already have.
My spritework can be seen here.

Nah, I'll save it for larger stuff. :P Though I might make a smaller version for my sprites...

About the sword: the lighting is kinda off. Will work on that.

It well depicts your name. Lots of colors for an artisticly motivated dude. I can't imagine what you would use this for though... :hmm:

Unfortunately, I don't yet have a single piece of art large enough to watermark, but it was fun and easy to make and will be useful if and when I create a large enough work of art to fit this logo on it.

EDIT: A smaller version.

After I promised myself I'd never touch this again... here I am. Gone full circle. But now that I'm far more skilled (though nowhere near mainline level) than when I originally made this guy, I thought I'd give him an overhaul, and give myself some animating practice while at it. Even though Melinath's no longer around, I figure people can always use a fully animated swordsman somewhere (myself among others :P ). But I'm having trouble with the boss on the shield, and I'm not sure what I can do to make it look right.

You've lost the shape, though. It has a distinct shape that (I find, anyway) is hard to draw from this angle.
