I don't care for the French word thingy anymore. That is not priority.

Re: 1940: European Theatre
Of course, the swastika isn't the only symbol that's commonly associated with WW2 German military, and there's a nice alternative without all the negative Western stigma:Turuk wrote:Not that I think Panzervb would do it, but yes, this should be avoided in order to not cause potential issues. While it may make for historical accuracy and the symbol itself is recurring motif in Eastern themes, the Western stigma associated with it, particularly in this war context, should probably be avoided.Skizzaltix wrote:...Yes, there's a reason I was feeling stupid. I guess I'm just really used to seeing it with the swastika (Not to say you should put that in--I don't know how much of an issue it could be, but better safe than sorry, right?).

Re: 1940: European Theatre
Yup, but not an issue, that is already present on the flags. If you look at the larger version of his screenshot, you can see that the flag has the Balkenkreuz on it.Jodwin wrote:Of course, the swastika isn't the only symbol that's commonly associated with WW2 German military, and there's a nice alternative without all the negative Western stigma:

Re: 1940: European Theatre
Well I did look at the bigger screenshot, and to me it looked like there's something black on top of the tank's turret rather than the cross...but if it is the cross then it's horribly off the center of the flag.Turuk wrote:Yup, but not an issue, that is already present on the flags. BETA RELEASE! This is compatible with Wesnoth 1.5.9 only
This release has some balance issues. THIS IS NOT THE FINAL RELEASE. Post your problems here, and I'll try to counter them. Your opinion is very important for the growth of this era.

Re: A era and faction(s) idea
Actually, I think there is a better way to handle artillery within the Wesnoth engine, while doing justice to its range: Leadership. After all, artillery rarely accomplishes much on its own; it fires in support of other units on attack or defense, in order to surpress the enemy, which allows the attacking unit to fight more effectively.JW wrote:I don't know why multi-hex attacks would be necessary for this...I mean even in Civ you have to be next to a unit to attack it. Artillery just gets a no retal bombardment. You could easily set a range=artillery and have it either retal against all other artilleries, or you could set each faction's artillery to a different variable**, or you could try to code a 'no retal' weapon special. It's entirely possible to get away with a few things here - as if it were necessary to begin with. I mean, I have hardly ever read of longbowmen being counter-attacked by the slings of footpads before.
Actually, to really represent that aspect of artillery, you'd need a ranged Slow effect, but just using Leadership is probably fine. If you want to differentiate between different (more powerful) artillery types, you'd need less and more powerful Leadership bonuses or Slow effects. I assume that'd require a bit of coding, and if you go that way, a unit that provides the Slow power to adjacent units would be even better, but at least it'd keep the user interface unchanged, unlike a ranged attack.

Did anyone ever try this? The OP seems to have stopped coming to the forums. Any interest?

If no one has posted in months, probably not.
Try the add-on "Modern Combat" for something (somewhat) similar. Alternatively, you could always try reviving this era.

Looks dead to me. He started out well. I think some square counter style background would be better than the flag and wouldn't have flip problems.
Initially more generic units would be easier to create to see if the concept works. i.e. light armour, heavy armour, instead of unique tanks and guns.
If/when I get more experience with editing BfW, I'll look at this again. I need to check out the range add on more too.
I edited the cfg files until I got this to work with 1.7.9
Now I can get into the rest of it and see if it is worth the time.

I've worked on this a bit. Mostly thinking. I took some copyrighted graphics from a game I own to test some ideas. The screenshot shows French infantry, Char B1 bis, Souma S-35. I'm not sure how the ellipses will work post 1.8.
The goal is to make a platoon level era.
To do:
Learn WML
Add Ranged Era
Add leaders with healing as rally leaders
Add leaders with attack bonus
Add planes
Add commando/special forces
Add anti-tank forces
Figure out transport
Any help, ideas, suggestions, will be appreciated.
