Player white vs observer white

Post by Sorrow »

Nothing big just a cosmetic annoyance, that causes a tiny bit of confusion occasionally.

I think observer white and Player white need to be different, or observer/server speak needs to be in a color that is not in the player color pool.
Let us all measure in milliyards, that way we can all get along.

I also have found that to be annoying on occassion. I don't think they are the exact color, but they are quite similar.

Perhaps even have observer names format differently:

Perhaps make player white --> player yellow.

I'm color blind, so even if they're slightly different, as JW mentioned they might be, they still look exactly the same to me.

I like aethaeryn's idea
(observer)
<player>
Parentheses may differentiate it easily

I also think this is a very sensible idea.

They are ever so slightly different in color. What about just making observers gray?

All the Wesnoth Colors were put in with color blindness in mind...

Personally, I'd get those mixed up.

What about something like Viliam suggested a few years ago, Better Visual Aid for the observers VS players. Like putting the observer's eye next to there name when they send a message.

<obs sorrow> blah

Well, I was thinking more of the eye that appears in the corner on the top when they observe a game, but whatevers easier for the devs.

Speaking as a color blind person, they're pretty bad. I find the default team color pairs of blue and purple and red and brown absolutely indistinguishable. Fortunately, it was easy to change them.

Well given the limited number of colours available we're never going to create a perfect fix.

Personally I don't find white players an issue; I can almost always tell if they are speaking because its slightly grayer than the obs white. I find I have less of an issue if they are team chatting (the most important type of chatting) Its even less of an issue when you remember who your team mate is.

So the powers that be know. Maybe it will be fixed, maybe it won't; its always going to be a trade off.
