Might work well for a project I'm involved in, in this post.

I'm really not a fan of the "erase out" death. No offense, but but it looks really silly and stupid.

Oh you thought the last part of the gif was for death didn't you. That is for the teleport ability, not the death animation.
He's already explained, that's not his death animation, it's his teleport animation

It still looks ridiculous, even as a teleport animation. If I understand SONM right, though, that part of the gif won't be used at all, but rather the normal graphic. (At least, I hope that's what was meant.)

I belive the effect was coded by zookeper

the teleport looks like the silver mages teleport with a slightly yellow tint.

Here is my try at a death animation.
What happens is when the mage disappears since his clothing is infused with magic it starts to disintegrate into nothing.

It's better than no animation... Kind of

Personally, I'd suggest that if the unit you've recoloured doesn't yet have the animation (which it doesn't) it's not worth bothering to make your own.

You could try making a death animation for the silver mage and getting it contributed, then recoloring it. That would be great! But it would have to be a lot more polished than this one. For one thing, the frames are waaaay too fast. Read this. Then work hard. :-)
I'd kind of rather see him pull a Yoda, then have his pile of clothes fade to white. But since the frames are so fast, it's hard for me to see what's going on in your version.

If you do plan on doing that doing a solid, physical death animation where the unit collapses over 4 or 5 frames would be far more useful in the long run than any for of metaphysical fade-out thing.

You should really do a physical death animation.

Collapsing is much harder than erasing parts of the sprite. So I won't suppose SomeOneNamedMe is able to do such a difficult animation. For example, I can do recolours, but I'm not able to work on difficult animations.

Maybe SomeOneNamedMe is able, but we should ask first.

Exactly right. If I tried to make a physical death animation it would come out horribly so i think it is best if I don't make one at all.

I just looked and I think all the mage death animations are out of date.

i like silver mages, but when i am using them with the white ones, they look too much similar.
if there was a version of silver mage with more desaturated and maybe more contrast clothing, i would replace my wesnoth core image files at once (that would qualify as 'anything', i suppose).

You are aware that if you desaturate the clothing, they will appear less colourful, right? [/grammar_naziness]
