What platform are you on? What version of the game did you download?

It seems you have downloaded the code, not the installer... you can download the installer for your operating system (20mb in the downloads section) or you can try to compile it (I think you'll find help in the "Manual" section, at the top of the page).

Think of it this way. You are now smarter for having done it the hard way and you're now a registered forum user.

I hope you enjoy Wesnoth, Abaddon. If you have any other problems feel free to post to the forums.

Also, perhaps the "binaries" can be clarified so new players who don't necessarily understand computer jargon know what they are? It seems simple to us, but others might be confused.

IMHO the Windows and Mac binaries should be displayed the most prominently at the top of the page.

Or maybe our website detect IE and display "THIS IS THE FILE YOU PROBABLY WANT" if IE is the client ;)

Yes, IExplorer should be detected, maybe also other browsers if they say they come from MS Windoze. But instead of saying "this is what you probably want" I would prefer simply highlighting the option: light yellow background, bold text, when mouse is over text play sound "click-me-NOW.wav".

And perhaps also change the text "Windows: wesnoth-windows-0.8.exe" into something more newbie-friendly, like "Installation program for Windows (version 0.8 )".

Can we PLEASE have an 8.1 binary, or at least not be locked out of the main server then? I cannot compile it on my Win XP without overriding a lot of school(college) security, and I'd rather not get caught doing that(downloading the library files).

Play on Server.wesnoth.org until the binary comes out.

And the odds of finding someone else going there after such a spectacular patch are...about nil...
