It seems that some pupkin ass are having fun with a modified version of Wesnoth. They use it to observe other's game even without permission, and also crash the game they don't like....
Re: some jackass crshing other's game...
Well, this would be only possible with a bug in the Wesnoth server. Would you be able to give details on exactly how they 'crash' games?bertram wrote:It seems that some pupkin ass are having fun with a modified version of Wesnoth. Also in version 0.8, the 'Allow Observers' checkbox doesn't work, so games will out of sync if 'Allow Observers' isn't checked. So...there is no way to block out observers. This is corrected in CVS HEAD.

It's pretty easy to crash a multiplayer game as a player, if you add a custom unit to a multiplayer side on your machine, and you recruit it, everyone else who doesn't have the custom unit will go out-of-sync. But that's just a guess. I do not play online multiplayer.

(1) that's not crashing the game, that's making it go out of sync;MadMax wrote:It's pretty easy to crash a multiplayer game as a player, if you add a custom unit to a multiplayer side on your machine, and you recruit it, everyone else who doesn't have the custom unit will go out-of-sync. (2) a player terminating a game isn't really a problem. It's when a non-player can do it that it's a problem.

What's exactly happening
Well, after trying to play several multiplayer games, (we first allowed observers...), that's what happened...
The guy who created the game gave us 1000 gold / turn. (I don't think it's the problem...)
Then, after a few turns, an observer started to criticize us, but the real weird thing is that he's sometimes got a name, sometimes not...
Then he said somthing like (It happened two times) : "100 Gold = Death to all"
Immediatly after that, the screen filled with red, and a few seconds later, it crashed.

That gets me sick. It could even be called a hacking. I would like to see this pursued.bertram wrote:Well, after trying to play several multiplayer games, (we first allowed observers...), that's what happened...

So you mean the whole screen went red? By 'crashed' what do you mean? Wesnoth exited?bertram wrote: Immediatly after that, the screen filled with red, and a few seconds later, it crashed.

ive been working on these people for some time
dont worry, i can take care of it somewhat
unfortunately, to stop it completely i need the cooperation of some others, and none of the developers have been listening to my warnings or caring for the last week
the only little thing that happened to help me was misc suggested on savannah we stem cheating and hacking files a little
oh well...

We can't react on "it crashes" when there are no details. Terminal output? Backtrace (in case of crash/segfault)? What operating system? Self-compiled or installed from package? Can it be reproduced? How it can be reproduced? etc...Stosswelle wrote:none of the developers have been listening to my warnings or caring for the last week

Indeed, precisely. I would like nothing more than to cut out all bugs that allow the security of Wesnoth games to be compromised. However to be able to do this I am going to have to have the co-operation of users through concise and clear bug reports.miyo wrote:We can't react on "it crashes" when there are no details. Important note: "it crashes" is used very liberally in all sorts of situations, many of which I do not consider to be a 'crash'. This is far from enough information to go on.

It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.

Do you have any more information? Terminal output? Core dump backtrace?Elvish Pillager wrote:Yes.Dave wrote:By 'crashed' what do you mean? Wesnoth exited?
