Of course not, you're supposed to run it on linux and learn how to write about a problem with enough information that others have at least the chance to help you.

Or maybe Micro$oft released an update to make opensource games slow as H-E double hockey sticks...

I'd say rather contrariwise. I have quite an old machine at work (P-III, 1GGz), and last versions work even faster, than 1.2.8. At least, 1.3.15, 1.3.18, didn't try 1.4 yet, but don't think it should be slower.

For me also (altough with another SO), 1.4 working faster on my old machine..

the 1.4 didn't run slow, I try in my PIII computer and it runs well. But there's one I didn't know, when I played my custom scenario, I experienced slow performance at "Initializing Display", it took almost one minute. It's my WML code or Wesnoth itself?
I'm sorry if my English is bad and not comprehensible...
