SVN Sceptre of Fire: Caverns of Flame: end of scenario probl

Post by epte »

Hello,

I'm playing the Caverns of Flame scenario (recent in svn as of late last night (Sept 17)), and I have done this three or four different ways:

1. I've played as I normally would have, letting the orcs kill the remaining elves, and after about five turns after stepping on the glyph, they do so, and then I'm told that the volcano is erupting, and everyone dies.

2. I tried landing the final blow. Same thing.

3. Thinking that it may be a timing problem, I laboriously killed all but two of the elves, tripped the glyph. That very turn, the trolls whacked the last two elves. We all die in volcanic flamage again.

4. Alright. Fine. I'll kill the elves. Total elvish carnage. Trip the glyph. We all die in eruption. Additionally, there is no recognition that all the elves are dead, as it tells me I need to kill all the remaining elves and the scenario objective says the same thing.

Is there something I'm seriously doing wrong here? If so, then the instructions are unclear and misleading. I'd like to finish this campaign (my first time).

Thanks,
Erich

why did you assume you had lost?
Well, the "and now we'll all die" coupled with everyone dying made me think I must have failed somehow, or that the scenario had a bug. There was also mention of "hurry, find exits!" which seemed to suggest that there was a way out. And with linger mode on, my assumptions went unchecked because I never thought "Oh, I'm done. I'll hit the end turn button" instead of it just moving me on (in unlinger mode). And I had never had a scenario be successful where everyone died -- that was a first for me.

I suppose that in linger mode, the End Turn button should switch to Next Scenario (if success) or Main Menu (if failure). That would have helped. And yes, some sort of indication of success would have helped a lot.

That did it though -- I saw the ending. W00t!

Thanks for your help,
Erich
