Oops, I just read this bit!FireMaster wrote:Here's a storyline:
When the great disaster that destroyed the forests of Wesnoth happened, some elves went on a great trek to the outer desert.
They found a huge oasis and took refuge there. Soon after that, the Desert Elves found them and called them cowards. The soon-to-be swamp elves viciously killed the desert elves, then using some ancient scrolls, turned the oasis into swamp
I didn't realise your Swamp Elves are set during the Burning Suns period. Since the Free Goblins exist after (and slightly before) the end of HttT, the timelines of the two factions don't mesh. So, it makes no sense to package them together after all. Bummer.
[EDIT] Oh, and I see you're coding for 1.2 and I'm coding for 1.3. Ah well...
Want to post a Wesnoth idea? Great! Read these:

METAL bowstrings? Hmm, not a concept i've EVER come across, but given guitar strings...
However the level of technology needed to produce a guitar type wire that can take tension enough to fire an arrow is AFAIK far more than you'd be able to accomplish living in a swamp. Why not have some ingenuity and come up witha NEW line instead of copying old ones. There are lots of ranged weapons you could use - javelins/spears, blowpipes, woomera/atlatl, slings, catapult/slingshot (developing working rubber is far more likely than aluminium wire...) - and any of these would make your swamp elves slightly more than what they are now - a virtual carbon copy of the wood elves, with Swamp in front of each unit name, though admittedly with a couple of extras.
Not to mention the fact that it's not just the string that would have problems if it were kept in a warm, damp environment like a swamp 24/7 (hmm, does Wesnoth have a 24 hour day, 7-day week... question for another thread...), the wood (or composite, depending on the bow) of the bow stave would quickly lose its elasticity and therefore the bow would lose its power. There are ways around it, but even a race moving into a swamp would adapt, and not just soldier on regardless of the problems. Particularly elves, who are more experienced and worldly-wise than just about anyone else.
