Making the Wesnoth server accept different versions

Post by OzorMox »

My friend is hosting a Wesnoth server, but it is version 1.2.3 (from Ubuntu repositories) and does not accept connections from any other version of Wesnoth, reporting that it doesn't match the server version.

How can we enable the server to accept connections from later versions like 1.2.4 and 1.2.5?

Yes I did, and I thanked you for it on the thread, but I wouldn't know where to begin writing a "config file", and I looked at man wesnothd but didn't find any options relating to the accepted versions. I looked here.

You might want to look at a man page that is newer than 2003, preferably at the one that comes with the wesnothd you're using. (here is an uptodate one as well: http://man-wiki.net/index.php/6:wesnothd)
A "config file" is just a text file with the syntax as explained in the man page.

Whoops I didn't think to check the date of the man page. I would have done man wesnothd but I was on a Windows machine at the time. I have had a look at that and I understand now, thanks a lot :D

Just that the version in the Ubuntu repository my friend installed on his server is 1.2.3. If he wants a newer version, I believe he'd have to compile it.
