Installing with no sound card
Hi. Short, hopefully easy question...
My friend tried to set up a Wesnoth server on his server machine and could not install it because the server does not have a sound card. Is it possible to specify that sound is not required as it is just going to be hosting a server and allow it to be installed?
Thanks.

You need to tell us the real reason because that's not it. You're probably refering to some dependencies to SDL_mixer or so.Ozor Mox wrote:My friend tried to set up a Wesnoth server on his server machine and could not install it because the server does not have a sound card.

Ok, this time he installed the server and it worked fine (surprise), but I have another question...
He installed version 1.2.3 from the Ubuntu repositories instead of compiling it. The version installed on the computer I was testing the connection to his server on is 1.2.4, and it did not allow me to connect. I thought that all 1.2.x versions were compatible, and all 1.3.x versions were compatible, but they were not compatible with each other? Am I mistaken? I have definitely played people with different 1.2 versions to me before.

All 1.2.x versions are supposed to be compatible. (Unfortunately not quite true.. you better use 1.2.4 or 1.2.5; just the client versions are relveant though)
However the server just accepts the exact version number it's built with by default. To accept more versions you need to write a config file, see 'man wesnothd' for details.
