I'm a little surprised we don't have Wes-icons. Sure, the sprites are often too small to show expression, but I think you could work with them. Throw some sunglasses on a Troll for

or make Lis'ar blush for

and I'm sure people would know what's going on.

For example, I own a forum with a tight community where just about everyone has their own Doom-icon (from that little of yourself while playing Doom):

This reminds me something: why not have an additional phpBB style based on the current Wesnoth widgets (used in-game), instead of the plain subsilver theme?

If you right-click on each of them idividually and say "view image", they appear. I guess it's some sort of anti-hotlinking protection...
