"Units" Folder can't be modified

Post by Varthonai »

Hi, I've been playing the standard campaigns and add-on campaigns for a few months now without a problem. But now I'm trying to make my own campaign, with a few custom units, and when I create a new unit it can't be saved in the "Units" data folder without getting this error message:

"The item "Unit_Name.cfg" could not be moved because "units" cannot be modified."

As far as I can tell, I'm following the instructions on the site to the letter. I'm using a MacBook on OS X v. 10.4.8 if that's any help.

Swift help would be very, very much appreciated!

Um, yeah, knowing the operating system is absolutely necessary.

This sounds like an access rights issue. Do you have an admin account? Assuming you do...

• select the folder you want access to.
• choose "get info" from the contextual menu, or press "Apple+i".
— you want the "Ownership & Permissions" part to say, "you can Read & Write". Right now it probably doesn't.
• expand "Details:" in "Ownership & Permissions" if it is not already.
• change the "Owner:" to "Whateveryouraccountnameis" and change "Access" of to "Read & Write" — this may require clicking on the little lock icon off to the right, and entering your admin password.
• that's all.
Feel free to PM me if you start a new terrain oriented thread. It's easy for me to miss them among all the other art threads.

I actually already tried that. I'm the sole admin of my laptop and I have permission to read and write everything.

I'm pretty sure I tried all the obvious solutions before coming here. I even used Terminal to try removing all restrictions on file modification. The slashed-pencil "Unmodifiable" symbol is still there, and I keep getting the same message when I try putting units in.

Problem solved. I copied the entire Wesnoth folder and pasted it in a different location.

I'm not quite sure why that worked, but I'm not about to complain. Thanks for the help!
