I found a typo in the mantis.cfg file, there's a missing quote in the "unit_description" line. I fixed it.

Here's the Bombardier.
I made a few changes to the stats posted earlier--I lowered the health to 28, raised the experience to 30, and gave the creature Marksman.

the ant will be level 1 yes. but it's not really neceserry, a level 0 unit can turn into a level 3 unit and so on, the level only indicates the upkeep cost
but the ant needs to be level one to keep it ZOC. here are the cfg filles i did, but the pictures arent right yet but since i dont have ythem all yet that doesnt matter

Wow, that was a lot of .cfgs!
Just a few things that I want to point out...
It should be Praying Mantis, not Prayer Mantis, but I can see how you made that mistake so don't worry about it too much.
Also, just as a precaution it's best to replace spaces in file names with hyphens (These thingies: - ) or underscores (These thingies: _ ). But other than that, I see nothing wrong with the file names!
I can read through them to make sure there aren't any typos or anything (I once was working on a campaign and it would not work, and I was nearly to the point of bashing my head against the desk when I realized I'd misspelled the hero's name in her .cfg file.
).
What is a "malary"?
Okay, here's the proofread stuff: I changed capitalisation, a few words here and there, some gold costs and AMLA experience requirements.
Also, I added the "scuttlefly" movetype for the Mosquitos. They have 50% defense everywhere, except in forests, swamps, and caves where they have 60, and they have a movecost of 1 everywhere except forests and mountains, where they have 2.
Also, they have 70% or 60% (I can't remember) resistance to Pierce, Slash, and Impact attacks, the idea being that you do very little damage to them but they have such small amounts of hp that it works out anyway.

My mind is a very dangerous place. It reads the archives, then processes it through all the different things I've been learning. For example, here I thought, "Hmm. It's random trivia, but only female mosquitos can suck blood. Maybe you should make it so that that's actually implemented. And maybe have them advance to different things too. I know these things are possible; rarely done, but possible."F8 Binds... wrote:You may completely ignore my comments.christiano_l wrote:thanx! your post was verry helpfull! after looking up some of the names i discovered these where just the bugs i was looking for.
i used a lot of you idea's to make the new unit tree.
stag beetle--> rinoceros beetle --> goliath beetle
-->wheel bug--> assasin bug
manits-->prayer mantis-->ancient mantis
ant-->warrior ant--> super ant
-->ant runner --> flying ant
dragon fly--> ??? --> ???
mosquito--> ???
bombardier beetle --> ??? --> ???
some things to mention:
- the dragonfly is still here, not as a scout but as heavy air assault
-bombardier beetle is now lv1 otherwise their wouldn't be enough ranged
-mosquite is now used for scout line (something like the UD bat)
i droped the egg idea, because it made things verry coplicated when the queen kills someone now he turns into al larva, and the larva can become all kinds of insect's
help with the names is still verry wecome just as it is with the "art"
that's about it
grts
-The mosquito should get a drain melee attack, although that would make it VERY similar to the vampire bat.
-Ant should be lvl 0, and be very cheap, as mentioned earlier.
-Stag beetles could get 2 melee attacks- maybe a impact, and a pierce 10-1 attack might be the other attack.
-The Dragonfly idea is awesome- but how would it attack? tackle? i know these aren't average bugs, but you need to think this over.
-the mantis could get less damage a strike, but get many strikes- like the EF, except instead of 5-4 it could be 4-5, and swarm could go with the mantis. the mantis could also get ambush.
Feel free to completely ignore me.
Edit:
Make them get a bonus at dawn and dusk! That's when they go. Only prob is I don't think you can.Skizzaltix wrote: I don't know if you'd want a Mosquito to be Chaotic or Nuetral. They seem to like the night more than the day, but it's hard to tell.

REALLY easy to do - look at any unit that has distinct genders (eg. Mage). ANY data within the [female] tags will replace that entry in the male unit, all you need to do is add advance_to and [attack] entries with different values than the male.littlebeast wrote:I thought, "Hmm. Male mosquito then becomes rather less useful, though, so you might want to compensate for the loss of Drain in some way (make it faster, tougher, or cause more damage)
Yes, you can, you use an ability:Make them get a bonus at dawn and dusk! That's when they go. Only prob is I don't think you can.
Code: Select all
#define ABILITY_TWILIGHT
[leadership]
id=twilight
value=25
cumulative=yes
name= _ "twilight"
description= _ "Twilight:
This unit is particularly well-adapted to fight in partial light, and causes 25% more damage when fighting at dawn or dusk."
affect_self=yes
[filter_self]
[filter_location]
time_of_day=neutral
[/filter_location]
[/filter_self]
[/leadership]
#enddef

Hmm. Yes, that'd work, but it might be confusing, with the "alignment" being neutral, people will think time of day doesn't matter, but it will. It'd be better if you could just define it with a fourth alignment, but then who knows, that might be worse. And it wouldn't work as an alignment because of the game mechanics, so it's a moot point anyway.Inigo Montoya wrote:Yes, you can, you use an ability:Make them get a bonus at dawn and dusk! And wait, wouldn't what you said make adjacent units fight better at dawn and dusk?

As far as I know, you can't define a new alignment without re-writing parts of the game itself (in C++, not WML).
And the ability will only affect the unit itself - to apply to adjacent units, you need an [affect_adjacent] tag.
