"Pick your recruit list" MP scenarios

This should be fixed now. Check the first post for the updated code.zookeeper wrote:A bug: if you try to recruit something (you shouldn't, but if you accidentally do) on turn 1, you can't recall anymore and thus can't pick more recruits. I'll try to clean this (and maybe some other things) up a bit tomorrow, but in the meanwhile...don't recruit accidentally.

This will start to be like Leopold. I don't know if you guys have ever played that game, but theres a square map(no terrain, just squares) with castles on either side. You choose your army before you play in the army editor(so basically its like only being able to recall, not recruit). The army editor works like this: You have a certain amount of gold, and different units cost different amounts. You have to pick a combination of different units to make a unique army. It can get VERY interesting, you can do all sorts of crazy things, like using units to switch places with other units, a doppleganger(SWEET), buffing your army for a turn, sealing the castle wall, summoning units, transforming units into demons(those last two are especially effective together), the list goes on. The point is to either kill all the enemies units, or get one unit to their castle(this became hard when they made the unit that can move the castle
) I just kinda noticed the similarity when the shaman/ulfserker combo was mentioned, we used to come up with all sorts of crazy stuff like that. Sadly, Leopold is dead now.

I made an alternate version. In my version, you have to move to a location (to pick a book, in my case) to choose recruits. But the movements and leader's location will be restored after you've finished choosing.
Pros:
- Don't need a special turn to choose recruits.
- You can see the cost of each unit.
- You can see the list of units that you've chosen so far.
Cons:
- You can't see unit stats/descriptions.
- Need to be updated if there are changes in unit costs.
- Harder to embed in a map's scenario file.
I've tested it 2v2 and it went smoothly without any OOS. I added extra units like Mermaid Initiate, Sergeant, etc in my version. If you don't want them, it's easy to remove them.

I'm gonna download this and try it, but even before doing so, it seems to me that having the cost for adding a unit to your list being equal to the normal cost to recruit it isn't very balanced. There are some units -- ie, Walking Corpses -- which are good for the simple reason that they cost so little.
I'll have to playtest it, though. Downloading now.

Uh, just make sure you don't download anything linked to from this thread, but from the more current one.Ultimatum479 wrote:I'm gonna download this and try it, but even before doing so, it seems to me that having the cost for adding a unit to your list being equal to the normal cost to recruit it isn't very balanced. Too late. v_V
Why? Where's the more recent one? You linked to this one in the post about the "best units".

...Oh. Oops.
Bah, that era isn't on my add-on server. Guess it's not 1.2.3 compatible.

Well, it might be compatible with 1.2.4. I just haven't tested it myself yet, so I'm not 100% sure (only pretty sure).Ultimatum479 wrote:...Oh. Oops.

So if you're getting 1.2.4 you could try it (you can connect to the 1.3 add-on server from within 1.2 releases by adding :15003 to the add-on server address) if you feel like it.

Worked.
Yeah, this does seem a bit unbalanced towards low-cost unit spam, since now you can also afford to have a bigger list of such low-cost units and therefore greater versatility. Walking Corpse + Goblin Spearman and BAM, you've got both impact and pierce damage to spam. A single leader and you can wreak havoc.
And the Slow + Berserk combo _does_ pwn.
