Wesnoth not starting (Mac OS 10.2.8)

Post by LibrarianBrent »

I'm using an Apple laptop with an 867 MHz G4 processor and 512 MB RAM running version 10.2.8, and have just downloaded version 1.1.2 of Battle for Wesnoth. However, the game will not start. It appears in the dock for a few seconds, then disappears. Can someone help me?

I have the same problem, and I suspect it has been dealt with somewhere here but I couldn't find it on a topic search,

Iwa, who builds the Mac packages, says they probably don't work with OSX 10.2 and lower.

I think you might be out of luck on this one. If you check the Console after opening BFW, you'll probably have a message along the lines of it couldn't open libintl.dylib. I don't know how the packagers got around the problem in the past, but it's probably getting harder to include the library and have it work everywhere.
Hope springs eternal.

The stable version seems to work, so I'll just use that one until a workaround is established or I finally upgrade my OS. :P

Mac OS X 10.2 is not supported by my build.
It is compiled with 10.4 universal binary root.
There is too many differences and I don't have a host for testing, so it's probably hopless to await await my build to work on 10.2.

I suppose some symbols or libary are missing or don't have the right version number, they are displayed on the Console.

It should be compilable by hand, thus.

Wesnoth 1.1.2, problems loading on mac

Post by Etain »

Hmm. I've the exactly the same problem, i.e icon appears briefly in dock and then doesn't load & I'm running OS 10.4 so I guess it's not simply a 10.2 problem. On the other hand I was able to run the first of the 1.1 development releases....

I'm having this same problem again with the 1.1.3 binary, although the readme released with that version says that "workarounds are now in place" for OS 10.2.8.
