One thing that is for sure though is that the factional matchups are a WHOLE LOT more balanced than they are on the Stable branch.

Powered down Knalgans, powered down Wolfriders, powered up Undead, rebalanced maps, etc. etc. etc......
I will not tell you my corner / where threads don't get locked because of mostly no reason /
because I don't want your hostile disease / to spread all over the world.
I prefer that corner to remain hidden /

You are right, it is probably more balanced than 1.0.2 at the moment. And this was not meant to criticize your and others work on balancing (excellent job so far :) ). What i meant is, we might introduce something new (maybe traits, maybe terrain, maybe tweaking the fighting mechanics) that screws up balance again. It can happen every moment during development.

I think the main problem here is that most people who aren't programmers don't understand what 'development' version means. When a user looks at the front page he sees two options: Wesnoth 1.0.2 or Wesnoth 1.1.1. Most people will naturally download 1.1.1 because that is the newer version. The words stable and development are just words, and people are quite used to ignoring tech jargon they don't understand.

What I'm trying to say here is that there should be more detailed information on the front page regarding the difference between the two release types. Preferably there should be some warning text next to the development version.

On the main page there are two links called "stable" and "development". If you click on these you get exactly that, a detailed explanation.

Yes, but most people won't click on those links. They will simply click the Windows (1.1) link and go directly to download.

Then the problem is that people don't bother to read the provided information, not that the information is missing.

Maybe put it somewhere where you can't see directly from homepage?
Or when somebody click on link to download 1.1 make big message appear that can discourage most of newbies that try to download it and saying they should get 1.0.x.

Certainly. I never said the information was missing.

However, that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to make the information more visible. As it is now we are bound to get these complaints from users who have downloaded a development version but should have used stable instead.

I agree with Rune and Tomsik there. The headline "Wesnoth 1.1.1" charms users (of course not all) simply to click on the windows link below (which leads you the sourceforege site with the 1.1.0 listings).

I dont know if it is difficult to remove this windows link till the 1.1.1 version is there.
