One thing that is for sure though is that the factional matchups are a WHOLE LOT more balanced than they are on the Stable branch.Yogi Bear wrote: It might not be balanced. So definitely not a platform for "serious" gaming (whatever that is).
Powered down Knalgans, powered down Wolfriders, powered up Undead, rebalanced maps, etc. etc. etc......

You are right, it is probably more balanced than 1.0.2 at the moment. And this was not meant to criticize your and others work on balancing (excellent job so farDoc Paterson wrote:One thing that is for sure though is that the factional matchups are a WHOLE LOT more balanced than they are on the Stable branch.Yogi Bear wrote: It might not be balanced. I think the main problem here is that most people who aren't programmers don't understand what 'development' version means. When a user looks at the front page he sees two options: Wesnoth 1.0.2 or Wesnoth 1.1.1. Most people will naturally download 1.1.1 because that is the newer version. The words stable and development are just words, and people are quite used to ignoring tech jargon they don't understand.Yogi Bear wrote:As was said a couple of times before, this is a development version.
What I'm trying to say here is that there should be more detailed information on the front page regarding the difference between the two release types. Preferably there should be some warning text next to the development version.

On the main page there are two links called "stable" and "development". If you click on these you get exactly that, a detailed explanation.Rune wrote:I think the main problem here is that most people who aren't programmers don't understand what 'development' version means. Then the problem is that people don't bother to read the provided information, not that the information is missing.Rune wrote:Yes, but most people won't click on those links. They will simply click the Windows (1.1) link and go directly to download.frame wrote: On the main page there are two links called "stable" and "development". Certainly. I never said the information was missing.frame wrote: Then the problem is that people don't bother to read the provided information, not that the information is missing.
However, that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to make the information more visible. As it is now we are bound to get these complaints from users who have downloaded a development version but should have used stable instead.
Fix me, happy bear, FIX ME!.
