Good news: there is support for this in GNU gettext. Hint for other devs: look at ngettext.

wmlxgettext has now been updated to this new behaviour: it should behave correctly when a #textdomain is included in a macro definition.

More changes

I just committed support to extract messages belonging to several domains from a single .cfg file. Beware, it has side-effects that may require updates to some of your campaign files. The disrupting change is that the #textdomain tags also has to be added in cfg files included from the scenarios (fi...

From the screenshot, it looks like you did not use the tinygui mode (enabled with configure --enable-tinygui). With this flag, the sub-800x600 themes are enabled, and you'll have the 320x240 theme available. It is surely suboptimal for 640x480 (esp. font size ;)), but you should be able to make a su...

Unfortunately, one year later this campaign does not seem to be linked from anywhere. So I've uploaded to my website the copy I still had - enjoy it from http://ydirson.free.fr/soft/wesnoth/oth ... gs-1.0.zip

I don't see this on my iPAQ in 320x240. I can't see what could go wrong - maybe a bug in the floating-point emulation code ?

Since I'm planning to get rid of floating-point as much as possible, it may provide a way to (in)validate this idea.

Thinking about it, I realize that the core of wesnoth (excluding campaigns) is both a game engine, and a world definition. We're here discussing design decisions about the (default) world definition. Maybe it would be interesting to allow for alternitive world definitions. That could mean different ...

It is possible that, while striving to get things work, I introduced gnu-isms in the Makefile. We may try to make things more portable, but I've learnt that the upcoming gettext 0.15 will provide support for multiple domains, but in a different way. So we might as well switch to this instead.

The problem was that i had no gettext. After installing 3 packages (including java runtime???) the compilation started. er... java runtime !? you should really consider something useless has been installed :) Maybe some warning in the configure process could be issued about the missing gettext stuf...

Re: Translatable hero names?

It is possible to translate hero names? Particularly those displayed under their pictures when they speak. Well, that was more or less a rethorical question, as I doubt the answer is yes. But can one hope for translatable hero names in the future? It is something I've thought about already, and sho...

I am also working on a wesnoth-lib domain, which will contain messages common to both game client and editor, to avoid having to do duplicate translations.

I'm really pleased to see that you're trying again. Well, I'm not REALLY translating again, just trying to get the version yeti compiled working with 0.8.3  Frankly, I want something like poedit on mac! Then copy the sv.gmo to the place where Wesnoth .mo files reside (renamed as sv.mo). Oh de...

Re: Recompile for translation update under gettext?

Have I understood it correctly when I infer that you have to recompile to update a translation under gettext? No, you only have to "compile" the new version of the po file you just updated. You can do that by running "make update-po" in the po directory. That will refresh the we...

Re: Stone

I'm slowly wading through the unmigrated yet translation needing messages... This needs different translations in reports.cpp (adjective or substantive) and the others (verb): #: data/units/Cockatrice.cfg:26 src/actions.cpp:705 src/actions.cpp:842 #: src/reports.cpp:122 #, fuzzy msgid "stone&q...
