I don't think this one is a waste of time. I've created my own era, faction, and units. I do think it is a pain, for most normal users. It's not that it's really hard -- but that it could be easier. I think what would be nice is a way for people who are playtesting new ideas for eras/factions/units,...

I like it, but I think the heal at +12 is pretty big. Maybe a combination of the two? +1 max hp, +4 hp? @Rhu - Yes, you can twiddle the settings to your heart's content. But as some of the sliders do not even have a visible numeric scale, how are you supposed to record the settings you picked? Could you code such a generator as to stick [CPU] at the beginning or end of a computer player's randomly generated name e.g. "Gweddry [CPU]"? Thematic-ness gained, without losing the ability to insta-identify a computer player... I couldn't agree more! I find it annoying to have to guess...
