Improving Feeding Trait (to be more like proposed bloodlust)

Post by foolius »

I think the Undead "Feeding" trait is a good idea but the implementation isn't great.

Adding +1 Max Hitpoints per kill is basically the same as increasing the max hitpoints for a level 2 ghoul (and a very weak kill bonus for level 2 ghouls).

I wanted to make two proposals:

1) Make Feeding instead heal the ghoul + 12 hp (or 16?)
2) Give the corpse unit this same ability (and remove plague)

The immediate heal I think is a better fit for the feeding theme. It is also actually a pretty interesting and useful power at that point. As it stands I just don't think feeding does much. Considering that the undead don't heal in general, I think it helps the ghoul as an undead tank / support unit.

It's just a suggestion, and I sincerely apologize if this has been debated to death. I did search for a topic similar to this.

Best regards

I like it, but I think the heal at +12 is pretty big. Maybe a combination of the two?

+1 max hp, +4 hp?

I do think the ghoul should heal at least +1 to take advantage of the extra point. +4 would be nicer.

Yeah, the reason I think the +1 max hp just isn't that interesting is because it's really just a slow way of increasing the level 2 ghoul's max hit points. Yes, the ghoul past level 2 can get more hit points, but just not sure how interesting that is...

Ghoul lvl 1 - hit points - 33
ghoul kills 5 units and levels + 5 feeding

Necrophage lvl 2 - hit points - 47 + 5 hit point for feeding

It's almost the same effect as:

Ghoul lvl 1 - hit points - 33
ghoul kills 5 units and levels

Necrophage lvl 2 - hit points - 52

----

This would make feeding a bit more like drain -- again, since the undead don't have healers, I think it fits and is tactically more interesting. I think +12 is big, but at least then it feels like an interesting trait which can be tactically used. (+8 is also ok, but it's the same as one turn on a town.) At +12 people can debate how to raise or lower the cost of the ghoul to compensate. +12 is also not as big an effect as plague, which creates a new unit.

I have to say that while +1 hitpoints are a rather small change, it really shouldn't be anything past 5, if even 5....actually 4 is probably even right out.

3 might work, and when I did play DID, there was a bug that caused that to happen (and the lvl 3 ghast made for that campaign to not work) and it didn't seem to cause much of an unbalance.

Personally, I think the plague ability is important to wc's and soulless, but adding feeding to soulless (I suggested it in another thread actually) allows soulless to actually be useful in a campaign, or extended battles.
