Library of pictures of weapon/body part for unit building

Post by Christophe33 »

I think it will be nice to have a depository of single object/weapon/armors pieces/body part to use as templates to build units more quickly. Right now we have either to draw things from scratch (i'm reazlly bad at it  ) or find a unit with something like what we want and try to copy/paste it. But things would be way easier with nice clean pictures of parts to assemble together or make variations of. It will accelerate the work a lot and allows more people to contribute.

Yes. I do use photoshop and I try to keep a file with the layer but sometime forgot. So now I'm trying to make some pictures with only pieces like the crossbow, a belt, some shields... But it would be nice to have sets of weapons, armors, heads, to allows a quicker production like you mentioned in your post. Also to keep pictures of unit that ended up not been used. They could be used by people making scenario, or modified for later use. For example someone posted a picture of a crow (crebain) and later on I had the idea to use it for my dwarf campaign since the dwarf have no decent scouting units...but couldn't find the picture anymore even though it was a recent post.
People experienced in making picture might not need such libraries/archives but it will make my life(and other amators) way easier.
By the way, can the person who made the Crebain picture send it to me?

Quite frankly, I don't like the idea of just copying / pasting / changing one or two pixels. This way we end up with units having all more or less the same stance, same features, etc. Units grow too similar.

Picking inspiration in the existing pool of units is fine, but shouldn't become the rule. True, starting almost from scratch requires more work, but from an originality point of view it is definitely better. Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect at first try. This forum has shown that several people can make a good job at improving an image.

Just my opinion...

Not if you have an archives with a lot of different pieces :). Anyway we are speaking mostly of weapons/armors/shield/helmet. Furthermore it is to help the poor beginner like me getting something usable in a rasonnable amount of time (less than a week for one picture).

I'll give a me-too on this. I don't think I'm so great on new things, but with a bit of stealing, I can do ok.

Plus there is a very strong sense that the unit images ought to look fairly consistent, and this is a lot easier to accomplish if you have ones to copy.

If we don't have space on this server (again, how to create new dirs?), I can rustle some up.
