Loyalist/Rebel Horsemen

Post by Gafgarion »

There has been periodic talk of giving the horsemen an earjob. Since I cannot recall anyone volunteering to de-elf the horsemen, I decided to do a few frames... are these needed?

Below are frames for a human horseman and an elven horseman. Although according to another thread the Rebel horsemen are humans, I decided to do the elven version for fun. If it's wanted then all the better.

If needed I'd be more than happy to de-elf (and/or make elven variants, if wanted) the Knight and Paladin as well.

I have already de-elved (and gived attack and defence frames to) the paladin. i think it would be good if all of the attack frames followed the same format, and i had 3 attack frames, not 1. you can check out this thread for what i did. http://wesnoth.whitevine.net/forum/phpB ... .php?t=782

This is not to say that you cannot do them in whatever 'style' you want; it is just to say it would look better if they were similar.

I had forgotten about the Paladin frames you did, they're great.

If you don't mind I can take what you did and make 3 frame attacks for both the Horseman and Knight as well.

gafgarion: your image are nice,, the only proobleem is the size/shape of the spear head in the attack position. It looks way to big. Di you try to make a trust mvt in that frame?
If so then it might be usefull to make the spear a bit longer such as the tip is not over the horse.
I also like the elvish horserider.

I agree with you that the spear is too big and I will edit that. I'm guessing that the person who drew the spearhead was trying to simulate motion (ala blade trail), but I think it could be achieved better.
Thanks for the comments, I will have a revised version ready soon.

Great work! :)

No we don't want Elvish horsemen -- charging on a horse with a spear is not Elf-like. The human horseman looks cool though :)

Alright, the new Horseman attack frame is attached. After some discussion with a friend who is very knowledgeable about horses and medieval weaponry I decided to forego the 3 frame charge for the horseman. To make a long story short, the mechanics for a charging spear attack (similar to how one would use a lance) and just not there.

Back to the game... I'm really not sure which attack animation looks better in-game. I tested them both and while my edited frame does seem more consistent, the current frame captures motion and seems more animated.
I'd greatly appriciate it if someone could compare the two attack frames in-game and give a second opinion.
