Cleric Faction?

Post by Death's Advocate »

Firstly
DON'T SAY WE HAVE TOO MANY FACTIONS
DON'T SAY WE CAN"T HAVE FACTIONS WITHOUT ARTWORK (I can deal with this)

I just want feedback on ur opinions about improvements to the initial idea

CLERIC UNIT TREE

Disciple

-> Follower of _Eros_ (post a name for a better god of life) -> Magi of Life

-> Follower of _Hades_ (post a name for a better god of Death) -> Magi of Death

-> Follower of _Loki_ (post a name for a better god of Chaos) -> Magi of Chaos

-> Follower of _Athena_ (post a name for a better god of Order) -> Magi of Order

PLEASE COME UP WITH ORIGINAL NAMES FOR GODS!!!

Healer

-> Spirit Adept -> Shaman

-> Botanist -> Herbalist

Monk

-> Seeker of Balance -> Pacifist (Please come up with better -this doesn't work)

-> Heretic -> Satanist (please come up with better - this doesn't work)

Caller

->Sprit Talker -> Totem Master
(A few animals parts put together - I'll post a picture later)

->Spirit Stealer -> Totem Collecter
(Sucks power out of people into his staff - when he attacks he weakens the enemy considerably)

NOTICES

I personally like the ideas for the units and have pictures of them in my head - I'll post them online tommorow

I hate the names I've given most of the units - please improve them (Original Gods please)

The underlined word for each section is the initial unit you recruit - then they upgrade into the following.

Artwork would be appreciated - I can do some but - I suck -

Maybe there should be two eras (one where this faction is united - one when this faction is split into good and evil)

Any ideas for improvements - please post

I KNOW
Many of these ideas have been posted before - This is more of a unification of several faction ideas.

Religious Controversy?

Post by Death's Advocate »

I've also just read one of the dead threads - People may find the idea of coming up with original gods offending (Black and White)

This is a grey area - as although some may find the idea of creating gods offending - people are doing it as a statement against religion

The "Jedi" religion is an example - people from the UK, Australia and New Zealand stated their religion as "Jedi" - one of the members of parliment did this as a statement against religious persecution and how it divides peoples.

People do create religions all the time, some are meant to be part of a story - some are based on myths, this is not a subject to be taken lightly -but not too seriously either

I think the general consensus seems to be that there are no gods and religions in the usual sense in the world of Wesnoth. This is probably quite a lot bigger obstacle than a few feebleminded ones getting offended by a game having gods and religions.

I'll give it a shot:

Code: Select all

Disciple -> Follower of Zoe -> Magi of Life
         -> Follower of Thanatos -> Magi of Death
         -> Follower of Taraxis -> Magi of Chaos
         -> Follower of Eutaxia -> Magi of Order

Healer -> Spirit Adept -> Shaman
       -> Botanist -> Herbalist

Monk -> Seeker of Balance -> Eirenic Heart
     -> Heretic -> Seducer of Minds
What do you think? Do these names work?

As to the objections people have raised, it depends on HOW you go about implementing this. You won't offend everyone if you do it right.

I find the idea of an all-mage faction absurd. That, combined with the difficulties I forsee with trying to not offend people with made-up gods (a nearly impossible task), makes me believe this faction idea will not turn out any good...

Why would a disciple of order be in the same faction as a disciple of chaos? They would probably want to fight each other.

What Temuchin posted though, was all greek.

Oh, I forgot to mention... I find the mixing of cultures a bit odd. "Athena" and "Loki" are from Greek and Norse mythology, respectively; I don't think they should be found in the same faction. "Botanist" brings to mind a scientist more than anything. "totem", although it is IIRC a latin word, causes most people to think of Native American totem poles. And then you have "satanists", an obvious Christian reference. Too much multiculturalism! AHH!!! :shock:

And what the heck would a pacifist unit be? Would it have no attacks? :?

Maybe it is the spanish title Pacifist, which means he comes with an army behind him to "pacify" a region :P .

Of course, maybe that smiley should be :( , seeing that if you got that title, you were good at "pacifying".

As said above....

Post by Death's Advocate »

As I stated above - a pacifist was all I could think of at the time for a seeker of balance, that's y I wanted people to state a better idea.

Also I didn't want to put Athena and Loki together - It's just Athena is the best god of order - and loki is the best fitting god of chaos (I asked for this to be fixed).

Also stated above - I suggested putting them in 2 eras, one split up - and one together.

Not Stated above - It is mentioned in the movie "Troy" although it is common sense, people hate what Ares (the god of the "more gory" aspects of war) but people still worship him - They also worship Athena (The god of heroic acts in war) and Aphrodite, and Hades, and even Sisyphus is admired although he had been punished by the gods,

In the End, you cannot have good without evil, that's why you would have two clashing deities in the same faction

Some would say that evil cannot exist without good but could can exist without evil, the idea being that evil is a parasite and would cease to exist if good ceased to exist.

I guess the "evil is a parasite" theory could also be used to justify putting good and evil units in the same faction, though.

Hey, do you like the new names I suggested, or are they too Greek? I could come up with other names, if you prefer.

Yeah well just because there is good and evil doesn't mean good and evil have to unite XP, and turin, it doesn't have to be an all mage faction, the monk can be considered a melee fighter.
Sorry for the meaningless post

Definitely agreed. Do you see the humans in Wesnoth aligning with the undead, or orcs? Just because you could make the claim that the undead have to exist for the humans to be good, not evil, it doesn't mean they have to be in the same faction. :?

Asian style monks? It keeps getting worse and worse... :cry:
