Dark Forest

Post by Oreb »

Why can't there be a dark forest, it could be used in maps where evil has tainted the forest, or where the evil creatures live (pretty much same thing)

I don't see why this can't be done, i'll try to even work on it myself

It could also have a natural attribute of darkness, so foes who are chaotic get a bonus

Any Thoughts???

Sounds like it would make a good scenario or basis for a campaign

not just for one campaign, but for updates for some of the others, like in the swamp/forests the lich and saurian inhabit

You can specify a geographical area that has its own time of day. You can make a forest be in perpetual darkness. I do it in Liberty with evil canyons. The only problem is that you can't specify custom lighting, though you can get around it with overlays.

IIRC, you used to be able to, but it really lagged up the display.

If so, it was before 0.8.3. Anyway, it sounds like a good idea to me. You could probably avoid overlays if you made new sinister graphics.

Hmmm, a forest without leaves? This could possibly also be used as a deciduous winter forest.

Having the game engine simulanioiusly tint different parts of the map as it does different times of day is on my wish list. Instead of using overlays like the MoL and campfires do. I don't know if it's practicable.
Feel free to PM me if you start a new terrain oriented thread. It's easy for me to miss them among all the other art threads.

not a dead forest, but a forest that is darker and evil compared to the original forest, which is bright and happy

what about a blue mist hanging over the trees? They just look like dark evergreens to me.

Doesn't look very evil. it needs to be THICK, maybe some variables of spider-webs or something.

Hey, nice idea! :)

I agree with Logan - a thick forest, where no human has ever been...
Away from the sun and from the world of light...

Haunted by ghosts of long gone Sidhe warriors...

Ok, ok, just thought that this forest would be the PERFECT scenery for them... :)
