Uh.... the image is where? Are you referring to the one in-game, or a new one you are proposing?

A bit too dark?

Maybe have more than the windows stand out... an idea: an open door with light coming out. Or torches sticking out of the walls or ground. Maybe differentiate the stone colors a bit more from the cave floor?

More village variety is good. I'd like to see a cave village, one or two orcish village and more variety in 'normal' human village. I don't like the look of the 'dwarvish village' - it seems like a necromancer's tower to me.

The more choice we have, the more idea we come up with and it's easier to differentiate a scenario or campaign mood.

I have long thought that the dark circle at the top looks bad. I suppose it is supposed to indicate that it connects with the ceiling, but it just doesn't look good.

They're not bad! But, they're on a different scale from the rest of the villages.

But the idea is good. Anyway, dwarves are small, so their villages are... small.

Here, I tried and give the light a bit more warmth. And make the buildings stand out a little more. It might be too much... but I prefer to be able to see the shape.

Edit: I just noticed the ground got paler too. I wonder what I did wrong - I didn't touch it. Is it possible that just opening the file in Photoshop and doing a Save for web would change the color like that?

Photoshop stores gamma information, which often goofs stuff like that. The good news is that non-gamma-savvy programs like Wesnoth will actually ignore it - however, web browsers like safari and firefox will use it.

To strip that data, you can use a program like Lemkesoft's GraphicConverter (if you have a mac).

Back in v0.8.6, without the terrain announced in the top row of the screen,
it must have taken me several scenarios until I recognized them as villages...
