Automatic map saving, if not present

Post by Matthias[Wlkp] »

I'm not sure if I made myself clear ;).

I played once on a very cool map (small, hex shape, 6 players), then I wanted to create game with it, and it wasn't there! I also played with darune on his wizard wars, but I can't host games with this mod, even if I played it already!

Could this be done automatically, or do I have to ask every time the host if this map is standard, or where can I download it...

I like to play a new map once in a while but would I like to see it automatically installed? No!
My selection of maps is chosen carefully, and I delete a lot of those that are shipped with the game from the HD, so I wouldn't want to contaminate it with lots of random maps (yeah, they'd get downloaded automatically as well).

Besides, people would stop coming to the forum and become contributing members, possibly .

It would be nice to have it as an option, though, maybe together with an option to easily delete maps from the multiplayer map-choosing menu. It's easy enough to do it manually when they're installed in your .wesnoth/ folder, but it'd be good of it were even easier...

A good idea at first glance... but IMHO, not a good idea. When people think they are done with developing a map people can download the final(more or less) version.
I have published a version 0.1 of the Wizard Wars here on forum for you information.

Map server

Post by js138 »

Hmm. I captured quite a few maps I like by saving games and chopping them out. Having a function to 'save map' would be handy.

However perhaps we also need a map server as well as a campaign server where people can upload finished maps and people can view and download the ones they like.

I guess some sort of editorial control might need to be exercised tho, if nothing else to group the maps according to their number of players and teams structure.

Just a thought.
