Defensive fire for archer units ever considered?
First-time poster but long-time player....
One of the reasons I love Wesnoth so much is that it resembles one of my all-time favorite games - Fantasy General. One feature I liked in that game was archer units having the ability to protect adjacant units with defensive fire when those units are attacked. This would add a whole new layer of strategy and make archer units much more effective.
I think this change would encourage players to think of managing their armies instead of shuffling units around in isolation. (White mages already "heal" adjacant units so my suggestion isn't too radical...)
Maybe - as a way of balancing things - the archer's defensive rating could be lowered. This added vulnerability would also encourage players to protect the units more.

I really liked FanGeneral, but I am not sure if defensive fire has its place in Wesnoth - with this feature it will be almost imposible to defeat elves in forest, when every elf will protect any other with defensive fire. Wait till someone more important come here, theres always a chance

Just bored..

Not really. This kind of thing has been discussed and rejected in the past, and it would take massive rebalancing of all units with ranged attacks.Big Bad Joe wrote: theres always a chance
That said, two things could come of it:
1) Someone makes a fork of Wesnoth in which this happens (Not likely)
2) An ability with a similar effect is added to a new or already existing unit.
It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.
