Naga-mermen question
I see that (for awhile actually) the naga mermen mermaid whatever people have been packaged with the versions of the game. however they aren't really implemented anywhere, correct? like you cannot use them in multiplayer. perhaps they are in some campaign? anyway, I know there was a big discussion about this, I was a part of it slightly, but I never knew what happened to them, they just got packaged....
thanks,
Tim

They are going to (eventually) be used in HttT, if I understand correctly.
And I'm sure several UMCs include them... I will be soon in SE...

You can always download the water era, which right now only allows naga and mermen

Don't worry, I'm sure that both naga and merfolk will be featured in some campaigns eventually.

Here's the scoop as far as I know
Here's the scoop as far as I know... Basically, the new Mermen are used in TRoW, and the new Nagas will be used there some time soon as well. There is some desire to phase out the use of the old Merfolf & Nagas but that basically rests on Jetryl or some other developer finding the time & desire to make the needed changes (I might do so for BoP in HttT some time soon)... and to mark the old units as obsolete... That being said I will miss the 'Sea Hag'.
Note to forum users: You are in a maze of twisty little passages

Maybe someone will create a medusa like creature that is a real sea hag...Shade wrote:That being said I will miss the 'Sea Hag'.

I thought that, unlike the old Triton, the sea hag was going to remain in some form.

This seems backwards. The new Merman Triton is fairly alike to the old Triton, but I know of no plans for the Sea Hag.scott wrote:I thought that, unlike the old Triton, the sea hag was going to remain in some form.
It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.
Right: the new triton replaced the old triton.
If you were going to keep the sea hag, you wouldn't replace it with anything.

The sea hag will be replaced by naga spellcasters, who will NOT use water magic. Naga are not water creatures, they are sand/swamp creatures.
Water magic is not their thing.
They will use SNAKE magic, which probably means such things as poison, and drain, dealt with impact damage (for gameplay reasons, to keep it powerful against the one other race that is immune to poison, the undead). They will have entirely unique halos and/or projectiles for their magic, unique to them.
I scrapped the entire sentinel line on the grounds that it just didn't differentiate itself. For unit differentiation concerns, I am probably going to try for a line with shields and armor, quite possibly using maces.
Since the naga won't need healers, I will likely lose the "healer" line. Pity about "asclepian", but oh well. There may also be a bow line, seeing as how warcraft got away with that just fine for their naga. The bow line will not have many shots, but will have poison, perhaps even at level-1.

1. Whaaat? After we spent so much time thinking of 'asclepian'???Jetryl wrote:Since the naga won't need healers, I will likely lose the "healer" line. Pity about "asclepian", but oh well. 2. Reminds me of Medusa in 'Clash of the Titans'. IIRC this version had a snake's body and used a bow.
