Mentioned on Slashdot

Post by Dave »

Well, Wesnoth got mentioned on Slashdot in the text of a story. I don't think the story made it to the front page, but it got alot of comments. See this: http://linux.slashdot.org/linux/05/01/1 ... 106&tid=10

Extra publicity is nice. And it seems we didn't get slashdotted.

I wouldn't have expected us to, unless we were the major link in the topic. As it was, we were just one in a list of quality free games.

But yes, publicity is always good.

Actually, it was on the front page, and that's what led me here. I hadn't heard of Battle of Wesnoth before, so I followed the game link and checked out comments on Happy Penguin and decided to try it. So far so fun! Best open source strategy game I've seen, and great OS graphics and sound. At first it looks simple when compared to Civ-style or even Warcraft-style games (no facilities or buildings to build), but I quickly learned it's quite complex.

That's how I learned about the game, actually. I'm glad I did -- it's a really nice game design, with good production values; I'm really impressed.
