It would be nice to give more options to players who hosts game - for example "kick" and "ban" option to kick out observer, language filter and no-flood filter (some players usually <12 y.o. like to flood)

:ban USERNAME

That can already kick out observers, and normal players too.
It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.

There is no language filter currently, but there are other facilities available:

type colon (:) to bring up the command prompt. Then type

Code: Select all

/ban <username>
where <username> is the name of the user you want to ban.

This will remove that user from your game, and do a username + ip-based ban on them, so they will have to change both their ip address and username to be able to rejoin the game.

The server also does have some level of flood protection.

A language filter is a reasonable idea though, and wouldn't be too hard to implement.

How do you un-ban people, btw?

Dave, you have (:) in your post. It should be ( : ) to avoid smiley-coding.

You don't, AFAIK.

I would not mind writing a language filter but I still don't know what programing language wesnoth is written in. I have the source code but I can't figure it out. Any one know?

A better idea than a language filter:
Our user community ain't that bad, but the wesnoth server is no battle.net . We don't have a ton of people playing games on there, and a language filter could confuse some people, and make them think no one is there.

Frankly, I think our many languages are one of the most enriching things about wesnoth - it's fun watching, say, brazillian players go at it - you learn a bit about the language, especially if you have a tenuous grasp of it already

I think it would be better to indicate which games/players use which languages. This could be done with either words or a picture (though, I think for space concerns, a picture would work nicer). I would have one picture for each localization (and perhaps specific ones for sublocalizations so the limeys don't get all bloody pissed over having to use the american flag instead of the union jack  ).

These would be small icons, not unlike the ones used occasionally for release notes in other languages, and they would be tagged right before the user like a status icon in an AIM program. This would IMMEDIATELY indicate to others which language was preffered by the player, and players could choose which games to join.

A mouseover tooltip/menu showing which players were in a game, which factions they had chosen, or perhaps a single icon displaying the language of the person gathering the game would all be nice.

Uhhh.. Jetryl? Hello?? A 'language filter' filters bad language, not foreign language!

I want something like that. Or an autocensor. Marking national games is not really that important.

Just curious. What language would the filter use to set the 'bad words' in? (English, I guess, but then anybody just needs to use other languages, geek speech, or whatever).

I think respect among players and isolation of those who use bad language is a better option.

It'd likely be player-configurable..

Yeah, I tend to agree, but that can be hard to achieve...

yeah well i kinda meant bad language not foreign language. I will see about writing a language filter. I don't want wesnoth to become another battle net. From what it sounds like it sounds as if the comunity that plays wesnoth isn't that bad any way but you never know. the language would be english because thats all I speak (or atleast until i graduate from spanish).

 oh. yeah, i'm quite callous, and never thought that a game would include such a thing. Usually, the only thing I think of as needing such a thing is gnutella clients and search engines.
