hey ...
what exactly does CVS mean? sorry, if this sounds stupid, i'm a newbie here. anyways, i was browsing through some forum posts and i saw "CVS" and "0.8.5" being compared. i know what "0.8.5" is (that's what i'm playing after all), but what does CVS stand for? how come it seems to have more units than 0.8.5 version, i checked the changelog and there were mermen/maid units mentioned in CVS that aren't available in 0.8.5 MP
also, how come there's 0.8.6 in the changelog?
thanx in advance
just delete this post a day or two after someone gives a decent (and correct) response so i have time to read, ahehe

CVS
CVS = Concurrent Version System. Its on a central server that allows us devs to simultaniously work on Wesnoth and test it without really worrying about breaking each other's changes. A better explination is availible on google somewhere, but thats it in a nutshell. CVS also is sometimes used to mean a version downloaded of the latest 'snapshot' off the CVS server, with all of the recent changes.

CVS is a program that is used to manage all the changes that are made to Wesnoth.
When a developer makes a change to the game, they 'commit' the change to CVS. CVS will monitor the change, and merge it with any changes made by other developers.
CVS is very useful in allowing developers from across the world to work together on the same project, without constantly overwriting each other's work and so forth.
CVS has more features than 0.8.5, because it contains updates since 0.8.5. The contents of CVS are regularly made into a release such as 0.8.5. Although CVS has more features, it is often less stable, because there might be half-done changes etc in there.
0.8.6 is also listed, because we made a release for it, but then aborted the release since there were some bugs. We are still working to fix these issues before releasing the next version.
Hope that clears things up.
