New Campaign, in progress, "Ultimate Stratigest"

Post by lebluedude »

Alright, so I intend to make a campaign I'm referring to as "The ultimate strategist". In my head it's got 10 required scenarios, and some bonus scenarios but I'm not going to include those until after the plot scenarios are done. These are the plot scenarios.

Scenario 1 = 2 'player' map, in a desert, fighting against bandits. Introduction to the characters (Lethe Blight, the ultimate strategist, using attack I will refer to as 'war-fan' with poison and backstab and some sort of magical ranged attack with 'slow', and 'you', name, sex, and unit type not decided yet). No special mechanics yet.

Scenario 2 = 4 'player' map, in a swamp. one of player is an ally, with a bridge destroying mechanic and the two enemies are enemies of each other and, every time one of their units attacks another of their units they increase priority targeting of each other. You'll be destroying the bridges to funnel them at each other, most likely. Also intro to Lethe's bodyguard (A hero unit fencer) and "the messenger" (A lancer). The enemies will be orcs and naga). The allies would be the some kingdom or other, this is the beginning of the proper plot, as you're requested by the kingdom to help them put down some rebels.

Scenario 3 = 3 'player' map, 2 against one. The special here is squares that if you step into them, or your ally steps into them, trigger ambushes from units that spawn when they're entered. Also, the enemy will repeatedly spawn messengers with night-stalk and/or ambush that you can't allow get to the 'exit' to send a message. It will be (mostly) a slaughter in your favor. Enemies are 'rebels'. Introduction of a particularly bloodthirsty Kingdom general (Thaddius), and a slightly sympathetic but also dangerous rebel general (Borook).

Scenario 4 = 2 'player' map. In this map you'll be protecting a special unit, and will have a limited number of units available to you. The special unit will represent the king's daughter, the rebels will be attempting to capture or kill her. Special mechanic will be that when you move her into a house there's a chance that it'll either spawn rebels, or spawn supporters, or will provide you with some other bonus/penalty.

Scenario 5 = 4 'player' map, with your ally being Thaddius. Special mechanic is whenever he captures a village, he destroys it, causing more rebels to spawn. You and he will be on opposite sides of the map, attacking two enemy leaders in the center. Other special mechanic is ability to dam the river that surrounds the enemy stronghold, causing them to lose a lot of their maneuvering space.

Talking: Choose beteen siding with rebels or kingdom

Side with rebels: Lethe will side with kingdom

Scenario 6 = 3 'player' map, 2 against one, the special mechanic here is that you can destroy the two enemy strongholds with controlled avalanches. This is a winter map. If Lethe's gets to a certain point on the map, undead will boil out of the lake. Units not in strongholds/houses/other warm areas will take damage each turn. Also, if it takes too long, all units not in strongholds are killed by a blizzard.

Scenario 7 = 3 'player' map, where you're trying to take out an arms depot without killing the militia leader (who occupies the bottleneck between tax collector and you). A special mechanic is regular supply caravans, which, if killed, will provide you with bonus gold. If not killed they give the enemy bonus gold. Another special mechanic is tunnels that will dump units that enter one square out on the other side, finishing off their move for the turn. Towards the end Lethe will show up and reveal that, while you were distracted, she cornered Borook

Scenario 8 = 5 'player' map, your rebels, kingdom, orcs, and (some other barbarian like race, maybe Saurians). The goal of this map is to get special messenger units to the orcs and the Saurians which will cause them to start wailing on the kingdom, and to stop attacking you. (Keep in mind that they will be trying to kill your messenger for trespass until you get him to the destination). In the meantime, you have to pray that your allies (Borook) doesn't die. Lethe will show up, and attack Borook towards the end of the scenario, appearing out of nowhere, leaving him badly injured.

Scenario 9 = an assassination map, your goal is to kill Thaddius. You won't have many units, and he'll be well protected, but you'll have the advantage of the enemy not moving to engage you unless they 'see' you, and the ability to lead them into marked 'ambush' points where they'll die as soon as they stop in that square. Also you will be able to get your unit to certain points to modify the terrain, making bits of it impassible, or opening doors or the like. If you encounter Lethe here you'll see her talking to people of an unidentified nature, then she'll see you, threaten you, and disappear out a hidden passage

Side with Kingdom: Lethe will side with the rebels

Scenario 6 = 3 player map, two against one. You'll be defending Thaddius from several swarms of nasties that will be appearing from various points on the map whenever he approaches them. Thaddius must strike the killing blow on the rebel leader who is not Lethe, and Lethe must not die. (Thaddius is under your control)

Scenario 7 = 5 side map, rebels, orcs, Saurians, Thaddius. Your goal is to get two messengers past the orcs and saurians (Who will be allied with the enemy) to call the dwarves and elves in to help you, and also keep Thaddius from dying while he stupidly attacks headon. Towards the end Lethe shows up and tells you that, while you were distracted, she started beseiging the castle

Scenario 8 = 7 side map, you're in the middle with the king, attacked on all sides by various nasties. Special mechanics will be, on certain turns, the enemy will damage the walls of your castle, or fill your moat, or the like. However by putting units in certain places you can, trigger traps that will kill enemies in certain squares and/or modify terrain types. At the end of this scenario Lethe shows up and assaults Thaddius, leaving him badly injured

Scenario 9 = 2 'side' map. During the siege Lethe managed to smuggle rebel agents into the city. This is a city fight, and your goal is to capture a certain number of houses before your opponent does. Some of the houses will provide bonuses. Should you manage to find Lethe in this map, you'll find her negotiating with persons unknown, then she'll run off

Talky: Lethe reveals that she's been working to conquer the kingdom for herself by playing both sides against the center. You have some choices. You can choose to side with lethe, you can choose to side with your original side (Either rebels or kingdom) or you can choose to offer negoatiation with the 'enemy' side and join them against lethe, or say 'screw it' and kill everyone.

Scenario 10. this is a 4 side battle. You, the King, Borook, and Lethe. The end depends on who survives this battle. Lethe will be having reinforcements arrive regularly, telleported to her castle. The scenario ends when you move special units to certain points in the far corners of the map, completing a ritual. There will also be bridges that can be collapsed, though that's less useful then in the last scenario that had it. Borook will receive reinforcements out of villages he owns every few turns. The King will have powerful units and a signifigant income. You won't have as many tricks up your sleeve as normal.

Depending on who you had chosen to side with in the talky scenario, and who you kill, changes the ending. if you sided with Lethe, then you and she rule the kingdom together (wisely) until she gets bored and vanishes. The kingdom will fall apart into bickering and rebellion until you show up with an army from another kingdom, and pacify them.

if you side with the king, he will continue to rule either in a constitutional monarchy if you negotiated with Borook, or as an iron fisted tyrant afraid of rebellion (if Borook lives), or as a kindly king who will be remembered with fondness if Borook dies.

if you side with Borook and negotiated then it's constitutional monarchy again. if you sided with him and didn't kill the king, he does and becomes a despot. If you side with him and kill the king yourself then the country becomes a democracy.

If you side with yourself and kill Borook and the King then you rule for a while before leaving and the kingdom falls to anarchy. if you kill only one, then the other expells you from the kingdom and rules harshly. if you kill neither then they unite to drive you out and constitutional monarchy.

Then final scene is you at Lethe's grave. If you never actually laid a killing blow on Lethe, just won, then she'll show up still alive, and reveal her motivations.

five maps are done, but I need to code the special rules. Any advice?
