is this the most frustrating game ever?

Post by gayasswesnoth »

ok first of all i just want to say everytime i play this game i just want to punch the hell out of the monitor,

it just seems that everything i do i just keep getting killed.!!

i make horsmen, they get killed by my (deleted) grandma, i build mages, they die in 1 turn....!!!!

i am just hating it

the game doesnt even say which units fight best in what terrain, which units move best etc. for example (deleted) horsmen take ages to move on rock but a footpad wont. i mean what is up with that, and why dont they tell me that before i start buuilding them...

the game is sooooo frustrating because i send 2 horsemen, 2 archers, and 1 spearmen to kill enemy foootpad and none can kill him after they all had some shots each, then he takes out one or two mages before i can kill him. AND thats just one enemy,

goddam wolf scouts, doing 3-4 damage are whooping my heavy infantry when they boardded up in castles.

my troops cant hit (deleted), they go down quicker than a (deleted)

i h8 this game (deleted).

Sounds like you're having a great time. Keep it up.

Yeah, now you know :D

Try easy single player. The computer usually recruits less.

He's probably playing "The Rise of Wesnoth" and fighting footpads in the mountains can be a pain, especially if you are using horsemen or spearmen (who are rather weak). "Heir to the Throne" on easy mode should be a much easier campaign.

I understand you are frusterated. I think it would help to read some of the help pages, and look at the stats for various units. And it would be nice if you'd watch your language a bit. I don't like people using "gay" as a derogatory term. You'll probably chew me out for saying this, but we try to keep our language pretty clean in these forums.

Ok, here are some tips:
There is no universally good troops. Part of your job as commander is to
select and recruit the best troops for the job. This has to do with
a) what you are fighting against
b) where you are fighting
c) what time of the day you are figting.

Footpads, thieves etc are hard to hit, but if a horseman gets a hit, then he does a lot of damage(and also may take a lot of damage). Use
bowmen together with horsemen and mages against footpads. Mages have a 70% chance of hitting anything, but they have (at least initially)
little health, which means they die rather easily
They are good against opponents that are hard to hit, like footpads, assasins etc.
Also terrain is important, horsemen for instance just will
not be able to advance in the mountains(though you only have hills). Plus
your units fight better at day while thieves and footpads(chaotic) fight better at night.
If you spend the time to read the game rules and tips, you'll
enjoy it greatly. If not, you can always cheat or ask for advice 8)

Well, I would give some helpful advice, but it seems lots of people have already done that, so it seems I get to speak my mind instead

There are two possibilities:

(1) you are over 14 years old
(2) you are 14 years old or younger.

If (1) is true, then I would suggest you should try to act more maturely.

If (2) is true, then all I have to say is that Wesnoth hearkens back to an age of gaming that you probably don't remember, when games relied on challenge, gameplay, and thought, rather than just 'cool graphics'.

what is more challenging that building up over whelming forces and smashing the enemy to bits in a few swift cruel moves. (ahh takes me back to red alert)

neways, someone was right wen they said i was playing rise of wesnoth campaign because i just thought theyd all be the same so i went back and played scenario1 and i am doing ok.

Umm... you've sort of issed the point. The point here is not to mindlessly fragment the enemy due to having an overwhelming army. The point is to use strategy, tactics, and challenge to overcome an enemy equal to you... or achieve some other goal than "kill all enemies".

I think wesnoth have a "little" frustrating point. I've been a starcraft player for many years, and i find that wesnoth is like starcraft but not realtime. This means that when you see you can't do anything to win the game, you die in a few minutes-seconds (case of starcraft), but in wesnoth, your agony extends through the time, making you a little crazy.

Also, comparing starcraft and wesnoth, you can see that "flood unit" attack works very good in starcraft, but not in wesnoth. Yesterday i bought 42 units (bats and walking corpses) and only 6-7 drakes killed all them.

Why close threads if there are still valid points? If people resist the urge to post non-valid things then the threads die without need to close them.
