Green lines as background on dialog items

Hi, I use Wesnoth 1.4.5 on Ubuntu 8.10, download from the official ubuntu universe repository.

On many dialogs, I see ugly green lines as background of unselected items; see the screenshot for example on campaign selection and savegame selection dialogs.

I have recently updated from Ubuntu 8.04, and also Wesnoth was updated from 1.4.0; it was month that I didn't played the game, before the update, but before there was not this problem, these green lines. And, I don't have noticed this issue on any other software.

What can be the cause? Maybe a defect of my graphic card? Can I try something to find out this?

I'm attaching my hardware configuration, by using lshw as root.

Fractals have invaded Wesnoth!

Reading white text over green lines there is too difficult for me, and I have normal (???) vision. I fear for the less-fortunate ones...

I have installed the official ubuntu package package "libpng12-0", version 1.2.27.

Maybe can this be related to a transparency layer?

I have this problem when I run wesnoth in Virtual PC on openSUSE and ubuntu. I figured it was just Virtual PC making me run through hoops to make a non-windows OS run.
