MP: Dark Forecast (survival)

Post by Bircoph »

Is there any way to win this scenario?
Even with modified settings -- I canged gold per villiage from 1 to 2 it seems to be impossible: after turn 45 number of rounds prolonged up to 53 and spawns became unbearable: almost each turn a couple of 3rd, 4th and even 5th level units. This seems to be impossible to complete with such low income...

Is this map intended for the people think Wesnoth is too easy? Really, this is something awesome.

Keep trying, I assure you that "lots" of players have been able to beat it. It was designed to require a lot of good play to win. Just keep in mind that there are some very good players out there.

Also: If you search the forums a bit you might be able to find a replay someone beating it. I think a few were posted a while ago.

I have with my friend reached turn 45 where a level 5 and some other high level creatures spawned, now with it being the last turn (so we assume by the fact that it says 45 at the top) a number 7 or something comes up in brackets after the 45.

Then, on attacking the creatures and ending the turn, it said we lost.

We then went back several turns to move our units into positions so we could kill all the units in one go (assuming it to be a final test to kill all units in one go) and on finally achieving that, ending the go, and being told we lost.

My questions being thus, how do you actually win the game?

Did you use map settings or custom?

I didn't beat Dark Forecast myself, but i heard someone mention that, when played correctly, drakes+UD combo are almost unstoppable. I'm not 100% sure, though.
You should try keeping your units on villages, even if that means they won't attack the enemy. That way, you will have a higher income, and they will be healed. That's all I really know.

You didn't use default map settings.

At turn 45, 7 turns are added to finish off the bosses in. However, if you had set max turns to 0, that will mean a turn limit of 7 turns and thus, insta-lose.

Ahh I see.

I actualy played a game right after making that post (non map settings) just to see if it was a one time problem and won. I guess maybe the time before we played with the turn limit by mistake.

Thanks for answers =]

For completeness and future reference, a replay with rebels and drakes winning it.

We used the upkeep loophole to max out income for P1.

We were at this for weeks. We tried every combo we could think of that seemed like a good idea. We finally did it. I was the drakes and he had the undead. He threw skellies and zombies at the problems to keep the drakes alive. I ended with 4 lvl 3 units. It wasn't one of those close wins, we had it fairly definitively.

I present to you the replay. The losses are massively stacked on my friend. He didn't mind though.

Now we can quit wesnoth :lol2:

Some of the mistakes were obvious, others not, So we welcome any feedback or comments.

I and a friend of mine beat it. I was the dwarves and he was elves. With the amount of forest and mountains, we had no trouble holding positions. But yeah it gets very hard at the end, but you have to use terrain and teamwork to win. Good luck!
Thank you President Bush

I've beaten it a few times on default settings playing both defenders. But I never made it when playing with another person.
Anyway, it's a survival scenario. And not an easy one. If you make it 'till turn 45 you're good!

It's easier than 8p Survival! I only beat that because I started with 800 gold and +18 income. Then I won it with a friend's help- we played everybody except the computer attacker.

In Dark Forecast, you basically need to have as many good units as possible along all edges of the map (excluding the east/right edge), and it is a good idea to keep them in good terrain (in the north, forest, villages, and mountains. east, forest, villages, mountains, hills, south, same thing.) It really works, even in heavy snowfall or drought. As for factions, I think we used Elves and Drakes. It was so long ago, though, that I can not remember for sure :? (about a month and a half ago. I have been working on the coding for a campaign ever since.)

Long live survival games!
