New Survival 4 player map: ArenaSurvival

I have made a new 4 person survival map, where each person is on their own. The enemies come in waves rather frequently and the terrain changes many times.

All criticism, comments, issues, etc. are welcome.

edit: made some changes and reuploaded it again...look for it in the add-ons!

I've updated it with a slight change in the units.

I fixed the labels so they appear per turn instead of all being there at the start.

I would appreciate some input on how enjoyable this survival is. I'm working on a 2 person team survival where I expect to make similarly changing terrains. Does it sound like a good idea?

Here's what I felt when playing Arena Survival:
1. The terrain changes when the spawn arrives, and usually the terrain will be to the advantage of the enemy wave.
This sure adds to the challenge. Nice work.

I think it would be better for the terrain to change maybe a turn before the spawn, so that the player is allowed to reposition his defenses.
Otherwise, players would have to memorize these changes themselves so that they won't place a unit on 20-30% terrain due to sudden terrain change.
Or have the enemies spawn but doesn't move for a turn, like in Orocia.

This asynchronous spawning & terrain change would make defending more interesting without resorting to hiding in the castle all the time.

2. Village near the corners of the screen has advantages and disadvantages.
Disadvantage: Too far for units to heal, or capture
Advantage: Enemy will choose to attack instead of capturing those village => uninterrupted income to replenish troops.

Perhaps have more villages near the castle so players would be tempted to heal but that healing leaves the unit vulnerable to multi-attack by an incoming wave.

Currently, only 2 villages are close enough to the castle to make things interesting.

Thanks for the input. I'll consider changing it when I finally run out of ideas for new maps. As it is now, I don't feel like changing it :( . Its a combination of laziness and keeping it at that level of difficulty where plausability is just barely within a strong player's grasp.

I'm working on a new survival at the moment, TrioSurvival. It will be similar to this in that it has massive terrain changes and clear terrain themes. However, I plan on taking what I've learned and what I've heard from the players from ArenaSurvival to make it (hopefully) better.

I may be advertising too early though, as this week and next will probably be extra busy for me, and lacking of Wesnoth time. :augh:

I added difficulty levels to this and DuoSurvival to allow for shorter games.

i agree 100% with wy29's suggestion. golbeeze although this is a very good idea for a survival it needs a tad bit of balancing. if u give sides a turn to attack the ai before they move it gives a chance for this survival to be somewhat bearable. my suggestion to u is to make the units spawn and give the players a chance to hit the ai before they get hit. this map is to small to have units come at u from all angles and u have no chance to defend against them.remember a good survival isnt impossible just barely winnable:) sorry if im being rude i do like what u have done with it just a bit of balancing would make it more fun to play

also one last piece of advice. move the villages one hex closer at least.. dwarves cant even reach them from the castle unless they have quick which gives absoutly NO reason to be them. i know most people wouldnt choose them but still a good idea to move it closer just in case

I have updated it so the enemies go last. I will not move the castles closer, it HAS been beaten. It is possible, with dwarves. Footpads and gryphon riders are useful. If several people tell me it is still too hard after making the enemies go last, I will change the layout, but I really don't feel it is necessary yet. Keep me in the loop though, and I'll keep changing stuff. :)

Just beat it. Replays seem to be corrupted by selecting a difficulty.
